Hi all
Hope everyone is well. Bit of a problem as it appears the left shifter on my 500SE gave up the ghost at the weekend. Can't complain too much as it's done close to 17k miles. Hard work to shift up to the middle and big chainring and when shifting down skips straight from big to small missing out middle. Reading through old threads it seems it has been an issue for others. It's currently at my LBS but he is struggling to get a replacement quickly or even a Claris substitute. Covid is obviously not helping with parts supplies.
It's an 8 speed triple and the Microshift part was SB-R483. He would be willing to fit a second hand one if I could source one but I couldn't see anything on ebay etc. Does anyone have these shifters (or Shimano 8 speed triple equivalents) they would be prepared to sell or know anywhere else where they can be sourced quickly?
Many thanks

matt500se I have the original Microshift shifters off my White Destroyer. You are welcome to them. PM me your address and I will get them out to you via Hermes.

matt500se I've sent you a pair of shifters to get you going again. They have worn out red grips so I've included a brand new set of black ones I got from MicroShift. I didn't have any blue ones I'm afraid. Consider it a late Christmas present. A long time ago I wore out the triple chainset on my White Destroyer and ianmoss who wrote the technical section on here sent me his as he had moved onto a double. He didn't charge me a penny so I'm passing on the goodwill to you. Hope they get you back on the road soon.

Matt, I had the same failure with mine, really struggled to find replacements so in the end changed to Shimano (swapped to the 9-sp setup from my other bike.) I actually figured out a workaround for the problem of skipping the middle chainring on downshifts - if I pressed in and held the long lever (just enough that there was some resistance, without actually trying to shift up) just before pushing the short lever, it shifted down to the middle chainring no problem. Sounds weird, but I quickly got used to it and rode like that for months.

Although I don't post here much now I still read occasionally and check tech specs etc when needed. Always found it a helpful and friendly resource right from when I first got the 500SE. If someone was in a similar situation on here re: parts hopefully I could do the same to help. I had the blue hoods changed to black around 3 years ago after they got a bit grimy and were starting to come apart. The black replacements have started to tear a bit as well now so new ones were in order. Hopefully some of the Rocket magic will rub off and I'll increase my speeds!!

My bike's almost 6.5 years old now and various parts have been changed/upgraded (wheels etc). It's used all year round in all weathers and I often have a look at the Decathlon website debating with myself whether to really splash out (for me anyway) and go for a new one and have a Summer bike and keep the 500SE for Winter riding. Currently liking the look of the Van Rysel Ultra CF.
