hi everyone, as i mentioned couple of times I purchased a 520 flat bar, and then a few weeks later the chance to buy a (lightly used) 540 turned up. It turned out that the latter was a small and hence no good to me as it was , so what would be better than transferring all the 540 gubbins to the 520 frame to create a '530' ? (after knocking down the asking price of course)
Some points.
I had as many of you may know a T3a which I loved a few years back . Regretted getting rid of it, and have a classic Holdsworth racer with downtube shifters but I feel on today's roads, you don't want to take you hands off the handlebars if at all possible, or at least for limited periods only.
T3a was a great bike, only drawbacks were limited tyre clearance, and a non friendly riding position for us more mature riders ! Ive tackled these in this project and since photo was taken, have fitted the 80 stem, flipped from the 540 too.
these projects with second hand bikes never go totally according to plan, and i found out the prowheel external BB was knackered. thank you Mr wiggle for an RS500. Finally got it sorted this am and out for a long ride. No problems, 105 gear is extremely smooth but you do notice the gap between 50/34 at the front.
Next step is to fit SKS bluemels - bought 35mm (would have impossible on T3a of course, but I found the Crud 2 (road runner ?) was good at a discounted price on that).
Found the rear Akisum needs some truing but I have a stand (and have trued before) .
Heresy I know, but I may fit a very small lightweight rack at the back to carry the odd milk carton home from Tesco.
Btw vendor fitted 25mm Gatorhardshells recently, In time Ill be looking at wider rubber Im sure.
Any comments, be really great to hear from you all !
