I've had mine for just under a year and had no problems until last week when it started giving high readings whilst in Mallorca. It would no longer perform a zero offset and rotating the crank using the drive side was giving readings over 100w.
Contacted 4iiii direct and after 3 days got the usual runaround about changing batteries, latest firmware and different head units all of which did not solve my problem as the layup on the strain gauge has failed. Replied to 4iiii and have heard nothing for a further 3 days.
Last night I contacted Evans Cycles who I bought it off and today I was asked to take it into my nearest store so they could return it to their supplier to sort out. When I dug out my proof of purchase it showed I received it 360 days ago so a close call on the 1 year warranty. Let's see what happens....

Not good mate - lucky still in warranty. Mine has been excellent so far - but only had it couple months.

Phone call from Evans Cycles this morning. 4iiii have told them to replace my power meter under warranty and so Evans have ordered me a new one. Could possibly be here tomorrow.

Phone call from Evans Cycles this afternoon as promised. New power meter collected installed and working OK. Seems to zero much faster than my old one did which may be indicative that the old one was faulty a while... Onwards ππͺ

Could those who have them expand a bit on how useful they find them? I don't race or follow a training programme so I don't 'need' one but would like to have one. I just don't think I would benefit that much other than giving me more motivation to follow a more strict plan.

That's basically the crux of them Philip. I use mine to pace my efforts on time trials by riding to the power I know I can hold for whatever length of time they take and just gradually add the odd 5w to push myself. I can be sure I never put out too much power for a short time and then blow up. When I first started using it I was alarmed to find I was producing over 400w for the first minute then backing off to recover before coming back to my normal output. A heart rate monitor is useless during this initial period of effort as your heart rate is slow to respond to effort. When training I make sure I push myself well over what I can sustain for longish periods in the hope it will improve my power output. A power meter measures what your legs are doing. A heart rate monitor measures your body's response to what your legs are doing so has lag and is also affected by how you feel on the day and things like higher ambient temperature increase your heart rate for the same power output.
I'm sure if you had one you would soon be PRing your usual climbs once you learn your own numbers. You can see instantly when you start to slack off so can push yourself harder.
Power meters are da bomb
