I don't want to come across as being negative or owt but it does concern me how quiet this forum has become. Basically the forum needs content and stimulus to generate the interest and in the past that has been provided with a lot of effort from a small minority of members. It doesn't seem to be happening these days. Most of the remaining members rely on others to provide the input and contribute very little. A dozen posts or so a day..?? The last post was three hours ago. Respect to those still chipping in with stuff. Thoughts and ideas people..?? The site staff could do with taking a lead on this. It is a case of use it before we lose it.

This site has helped contribute to my appreciation of cycling, offered help and advice on the DIY, hands on, get your sleeves rolled up and do it side of maintenance. Following Daveβs travels has been an adventure as well, along with many others journeys. Sadly all things have a sell by date. Having been both mod and owner on various online (non cycling) groups iβm aware that they all at some point come to an end when they have run out of momentum. Itβs my honest hope and desire the site continues. With respect; I would also like to add that the new members are the most important persons/lifeβs blood of any group and should be welcomed warmly.
When people come into your life for a SEASON, it is because your turn has come to share, grow, or learn. They may bring you an experience of peace or make you laugh. They may teach you something you have never done. They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy. Believe it! It is real! But, only for a season. (from ~ A Reason, a Season, or a Lifetime? @davefy7, @robert
I'd agree that it is a very quiet forum; I'm just not sure what can be done to improve it.
I can compare it to a forum I previously used (albeit that was 10 years ago, and I think folks' way of accessing info has moved on from forums, with the various social media tools being preferred.)
That forum had more of a 'community' feel, and I think one of the reasons may have been that the people on there tended to interact more in person (it was regional, rather than national, so this was more feasible). From posts on here I've gathered that a few folk have met others in real life, but I reckon most users only know each other as usernames. There doesn't seem to be enough users in most geographic regions to, e.g. arrange meets-ups for rides.
I've recently started posting into the 'getting out there' thread when I have a ride, and try and chip in on other threads if I can share any experiences/advise, but if I don't ride for a couple of weeks, e.g. away on holiday, I don't bother logging in. I suspect most are the same.
In a nutshell, I don't think there are enough users to make this a vibrant forum at a national level. Scott.

It did used to be pretty vibrant on here, Scott M It is quite ironic that on the subject of lack of interest there appears to be a certain LACK OF INTEREST.

It did used to be pretty vibrant on here, Scott M It is quite ironic that on the subject of lack of interest there appears to be a certain LACK OF INTEREST. I didn't see it as it was posted under 'Trotter' ! To address some of the points: Community: - We have tried to arrange regional group rides but they take a lot of energy to get people to commit. I've been on two and tried this year to organise a Cheddar Gorge one.....unsuccessfully! I've now got to the stage that I don't need a group ride with a group from a forum as I've entered sportives with others and on my own, am a member of a club and can do rides with them, but still love lone wolfing it. - I used to love this forum and feel I 'know' people like @davefy7 and Rocket eventhough I have never met them. (I wouldn't be able to understand their 'Ee by eck ecky thump' accents anyway! So a forum works well.) Sell By Date? - I think that many of those who originally joined after buying Tribans have moved on, bought something else and disappeared into the sunset. Some have stopped cycling and some are injured. - The BROC halcyon days appeared to be when there was a very good value 'Triban'. Now there seems to be a whole slew of BTwin bikes. Maybe that affects the number of new people coming along? - There's a whole lot of information on here. I think that most maintenance questions have been asked several times. Maybe people just search now? I must admit that I still post questions even though I'm pretty sure I know the answers. Dearly Departed: - Lots of people who had energy have gone. I've been losing my forum mojo as I seem to be posting for the sake of it. How many more pictures of my bike do you want to see? How much of the drivel I write against my rides does anyone read? If no one is reading it I'll save myself a lot of time! - Some decided to move to the other side of the world too - eh KiwiBeardAnyway, was this like the stuff you deleted @davefy7 ?

No. Nothing like it Paulinblack ha ha.... Kiwi wasn't the only one to run (ride) a mile. What about Emma (Satnavsaysstraighton)? She's in Aussie now. Fluffy kitten grew into a cat and got a liking for cream so outgrew her pushy. The Peculiar viper chappie... what happened to him? Steph from the Midlands... last known whereabouts was riding a horse naked down the streets of Coventry. It worked. She got herself a boyfriend and gave up cycling. Veganpower r us.... had a bash up a Thai mountain with his powermeter, satisfied his curiosity and then moved onto his next gadget infested pastime. Redleader.... why he set up a cycling forum I'll never know. Does he ride a bike? Any others worthy of a mention?

I have to say I'm truly grateful to the good folk I have met through this forum, whether virtually or in person. It's been a key source of encouragement, support and know-how for me for a long time, and though my opportunities to post ebb and flow with other commitments I always look forward to coming back to the forum to catch up with those who have managed to remain committed. It would be a very sad day if we were to lose the forum.
Some of the most inspiring stuff has been the personal challenges that BROC members have taken on, whether it's been racking up Strava challenges, surpassing annual mileage and elevation figures, ticking off 100 greatest climbs, experiencing Audax extravaganzas, Dave's epic global tours or Rob and Roy's transformations into speed machines, to name but a few.
Some of my all time favourite rides have been with BROC members, many of which have taken me on roads I may not otherwise have travelled; to the north, west, east and even south. I hope to have a chance to do the same again (Cheddar is a must do Paul - after you get back from the Velothon some time).
I've met some top class local folk via Strava, and have enjoyed riding with them in the past, even though they generally tend to cruise at the edge of my capabilities when I'm at my fittest. We've kept in touch via WhatsApp and activity on the chats varies a lot. Sometimes it can be a bit too much to be honest. Even though they are all within 20 miles or so, they tend to go through phases of being available for riding, and like me, people in the group have come and gone and reconnected again.
I'm certainly hoping the BROC will live on.
