Morning All,
I've been offered a team place on the London to Brighton. I've never really considered this event before as I've always thought it would be a logistical nightmare (getting from Hertford to London for the early start, then back from Brighton at the end).
Has anyone on here done it before and if so would you recommend? Ditchling Beacon aside, I'm trying to decide whether the event is good enough to warrant the undoubted hassle.

Don't bother, it's so busy you can't really ride your bike. I've ridden London - Newhaven, nice ride, would suck to walk every hill due to the crowds.

"A cycle event for people who don't cycle" is how I've seen it described elsewhere. I do worry about the prospect of arriving at Ditchling Beacon and having to dismount as it's too full of folk pushing their bikes up the hill.

Lots of crashes too because of the vast number of people with no idea how to ride a bike taking people out

Hmm true π₯ we do need to start this again. I'll have to dust the bike off.
I'd like to do it again if anyone else fancies it ?
Who's up for a little ride?

If we can wangle it on a Saturday, like we did on the last one, then count me in Steve, as long as we can avoid the first weekend of September. Small matter of our oldest getting married. Any more of the BROC South East crew interested? Was a strong showing last time.

Saturdays are best for me. I think any in July should be OK, though I'm hoping to tie up a ride with Pete R around the start of July. August and the first Saturday of September is not so good but other Sept Saturdays should be good to go. Shout out to KiwiBeard for the nudge!

I'd be in for it.
And, as if it is not complicated enough already, I'll throw the alternative suggestion: how about London to Ditchling and back? It would make it 100 miler (starting somewhere around Clapham, and you can always run Ditchling twice if you are that OCD about having it 100 exactly). If done later in the season, everybody will have enough miles in their legs. I'd much rather do that than mess with getting into and through the Brighton, and train and all that. Ride down Ditchling is quite thrilling and they have very nicely paved surface there.

I'd be up for a ride, probably favouring an out-and-back affair as utriban suggests seeing as I have to get back anyway. Summer's not looking great weekend wise so probably September for me.
