So I got myself a T3 last summer, and hadn't had time to do anything with it until now. I've spent a bit of time on it recently and it's had a few parts changed on it, so it's now a bit of a mix of various parts, but it's cycling really nicely and I'm happy out with it. The bike now has Sora 3500 shifters, stock front brake, Ultegra double crank with a dura ace big ring (so I have a 53 39 at the front), a Deore rear mech, 11-34 cassette and a Tiagra rear brake. Everything was picked up cheaply, either as free, ebay or ex-display so the cost of all this has been very minimal, and it's taught me a lot about bikes! To complete the series I'm on the look out for a cheap 105 front brake . It's one of the bikes with 650c wheels so the mudguards look pretty awful, but they do their job still.

I definitely need to develop some of those skills sarahc1 . Great to see a T3 getting lots of TLC. Curious to know what made you go for a standard double at the front with 11-34 cassette on the back and the MTB rear mech. I guess it may have been down to availability of components. That 53 Dura Ace big ring looks huge alongside the 650c wheels!

Hi Chris, the standard double on the front was a compensation for those tiny wheels, and the big range cassette was to compensate for the loss of anything smaller at the front than a 39 for when I'm in the hills, and then the long cage rear mech was needed to cope with the cassette. In keeping with the mashed together component line up, the mtb rear mech seemed fitting too.
I'm quite happy with the result, the bike shifts nicely through the gears and I find the chainline nicer than I had with the old triple.
All in it was a good experience, and something that I think can be learned fairly quickly once you're determined to do it.

Good work sarahc1I bet you don't leave it at that. There are plenty more possible upgrades.

Great stuff. One of the attractions of these bikes was the upgradability. Riding a bike that you have put together yourself is satisfying in itself.

Thanks all, had a nice spin on the bike at the weekend, had a few 12% gradients thrown in and neither I nor the bike fell apart.
The small wheels mean you fly up the hills, but I've noticed a bit of a speed penalty when going downhill, but it's all in good fun

Sorry for the slow response Paulinblack, but that does indeed seem to be exactly what it's like - I also have cravings for doughnuts quite often!
My T3 is officially finished her upgrades, she now has a 105 5800 series front brake, thus completing the '1 part from every Shimano road groupset, and a few mtb bits because I can' daft idea that I had. Works really well mind you.
I also got some Koolstop salmon brake pads which I must say I am hugely impressed with. The bike was out for 3 days over the easter break, 1 day involved about 5miles of muddy cyclocross track just because one of the lads likes that sort of stuff, and another day had over a mile of vertical distance in a 40 mile ride, in the rain, and the bike and pads coped admirably.
