Hi,
I've recently started to modify my Triban 500 to use a double compact crank. I got hold of a Claris chainset and the recommended bottom bracket spec 113.
I've installed it on the bike but left the triple shifter and front mech in as it was my understanding that it would work with the original Microshift shifter and mech. The problem is that on the little ring the chain will only shift barely halfway down the block before I get chain rub. If I tighten up the tension I get rubbing in the largest sprocket at the back.
Does anyone happen to know if this is due to the triple mech? Would replacing it with a standard double mech fix it?

hi, i have exactly the same set up (jut didn't bother with the compact, I use 50-39 without the smallest ring, still 113 mm spindle).
It is possible to set it up to get all 16 gears without any rub:
- you need to re position the front derailleur (without cable attached) - right height and angle. - set up lover limiter to barely any space while in 25 - 34. - set up higher limiter to 1 mm space between chain and wall in 12-50 combo. - hand pul and tighten the cable in the front deraileur - make sure to set up with the the longest possible amount of cable from shifter (pull the cable and keep clicking smaller handle until it does not come out any more - to get what was the smallest chain ring previously) - then you'll be able to use a trimming function on left shifter - when small ring starts rubbing, just give it half push - not to go all the way to the big chain ring, but enough to move, stop rubbing and stay there. - fine adjust barel adjuster as required
hope that helps

Hi,
Thanks, I think I've got it sorted now.

How do the 4 index points work when you have a double instead of a triple? Or do you set it up to only use 2 of the index points? βΊοΈ

Ah I see. So the first 3 index point will be used on the small ring, with the final position used on the big ring. Thanks.
