......but I need to know whether the axles on my Triban 500 are hollow or not. I'm looking buying a magnetic turbo trainer for the winter months, and it only fits hollow rear wheels. I can't find the information online and can't check myself as I'm out of the country! Please help.

Yes, also known as a QR (Quick Release) axle.

Hi juststarting, the turbo trainer most likely comes with a dedicated quick release skewer which you will use while using the trainer. This skewer will fit into the relevant parts of the trainer to give you a solid fit between bike and trainer frame. An example of such a skewer is this one from Tacx Note the flat round ends of the quick release.

Yes - hollow axles mean QR skewers which Triban come with. As Alex said above most turbos will come with a special (solid metal) skewer that you just swap for your normal QR skewer on rear wheel before fitting to the turbo. You can leave the 'turbo' skewer in for normal rides if you want - they are perfectly good, just a bit heavier and more solid to take strain of turbo
