Has anyone upgraded the standard Triple chain set on their Triban 3 (red) or 300 (white) to Shimano Claris, Sora or 105 for example? Did you notice any improvements to pedalling/power transfer/shifting after this, was it worth while?

To tiagra. and yes - the original BB is made of cheese so that makes a huge difference, but I swapped that before the chainset, and I still thought the swap to tiagra made a noticeable difference when putting the power down.

To Sora with a new BB at the same time. A noticeable difference that I would suggest was more to do with replacing the original crap BB.

Yep, the BB is much more important as the stock one was crap and flexy.

Upgraded mine initially to Tiagra compact and hit my fastest average imediately afterwards but at the same time I rasied my saddle by 15mm so jury is out as to whether the improved bike fit or chainset made the difference.

Thanks for the reply guys the info has been handy. I fancy upgrading it to Sora then and replacing the standard bottom bracket at the same time to a sturdier one as it sounds like it is a worth while upgrade in the long run.

If you upgrade, you'll need a new BB anyhow, square taper is incredibly old school - You will be looking at hollowtech2 if sora.
