The joys of our climate means that I am looking at wintering up my bike already (August ffs!) or at very least buying a few bits in. I'll service the bike in September and will be replacing the tyres. Going to go for some cost effective Michelin Lithion's in 25mm and want to fit some proper mudguards too.
Is the clearance available? I'm using sora calipers.

SKS raceblades long should be ok there's two we metal bit that fit into the space (secured by brake bolt) you highlighted and the front and rear mudguards fit into them. As said in earlier post, they work fine on my T3 with Conti 25mm.

I'll have a pop. A rake of tools and bits ordered for a pre-winter service so makes sense to do the guards at the same time. That said, the weather has been effing brilliant recently.

I have recently fitted a 700 x 25 tyre to my front wheel and I am using Raceblade long mudguards. To be honest I am getting a bit fed up with the mudguards now as the fittings keep rattling off over rough ground and now I am using 25mm tyres if I pick up any sand or muck on the tyres it grates on the mudguard fittings. I am wondering if anyone uses a downtube mudguard and if so how they perform. It's got to be a lot more simple and rattle free. www.tritoncycles.co.uk/accessories-c11/mudguards-c146/pdw-origami-front-downtube-mudguard-p408

I got giant mudguards with 25mm gatorskins on my red. After a fair bit of initial fiddling they work fine with very little rattle. Only moan is brakes still get dirty, but no big thing. Am gonna fit a flap as I get a bit of spray on my feet.

That's them. Need a bit of cable tie magic to attach the rear to near front mech, but work OK. Bit of a rattle over rough ground at speed, but after fiddling with tensions it don't bother me. since I've got em set up, I've not needed to adjust at all and they have taken a few knocks from commute and kids etc. They not perfect, but do the job and don't piss me off, which is about as good as mudguards get I think.

Cheers erictheratI have seen some advertised at 700 x 30mm and others "700 x 35mm width for tyres up to 25mm". Do you know what yours are? Looking at the giants compared to the raceblades, there is a lot less to go wrong and appears to be more space at the pinch points under the brakes. I fitted some replacement blades to my raceblades about 6 weeks ago and the connections are already unfit for purpose and work their way off on regular occasions. I also lost the front section of the front mudguard in the dark on the trip up to Kendal.

The difference seems to be that there is a plastic attachment band on the rear mudguard. They are also made of alloy rather than plastic. Retails at Β£26.98. www.tredz.co.uk/.Giant-Speedshield-Road-ALUXX-Mudguards-Defy-Avail-_85664.htmWhat do you reckon, erictherat ?

i fixed mine with a cable tie, and a bit of wire and works fine - but that dows look way neater than my bodge.
mine were rattling badly today - they rattle along the top of the rear guard, it sort of vibrates rapidly. need an adjust. but can never get rid of 100%. this is unrelated to fixing on front.
they aint perfect, but they do the job. was a toss up betweeen thsee and sks - but they dont make longs anymore.

My work colleague has these on his alloy Giant Defy Nathan and they've always rattled a bit on some of the New Forest's less smooth surfaces. Like you say, a bit of a compromise between keeping yourself and others drier while having to put up with a little percussion to keep you company along the way.
