Ive been using the '3 pairs for £3.50' socks from Deca all year and they seemed OK. Got given a single pair of Assos socks for a birthday pressie a couple of months ago and wore them for the first time today - much more comfy. Now I'm not paying £10 for a pair of socks but the 500 look similar at £4.50 - anybody rate them?

You are right mate - I need to screw the cleats into the soles of my feet and man up a bit

Don't do this, I feel a bit silly buying special socks from Aldi/Lidl as it is (but they are much more comfy).

Sports Direct do some Nike socks (short and long) think they're about £6 for 3 pairs, these are pretty good for the money for every day type use. Got a good few pairs of Aldi socks too, they did some pro type ones a while back, these are more padded than their usual ones and a little more expensive but you can't go wrong with them on longer rides, again these are only short.
Not tried the Deca ones so can't really help there.
I do also have some insoles in both pairs of my shoes.

I've got Nike long for colder weather, various Aldi, including the pro and some Deca but an older type. The Aldi pro are the best for long summer rides, I presume the better spec Deca ones mentioned will be decent also. Despite my p take, I do think decent socks make a difference, particularly on long ones, alleviating numbness and pains that you sometimes get when strapped in one position for hours.
