Yesterday 10 weeks after breaking my right elbow I got on the bike for the first ride. I only intended on it been a fairly local spin but after going up and down the road a couple of times with a sturdy elbow support on and been on the hoods it felt ok and as it was quite early and there wasn't that much traffic around I decided to do a run that is about 15 miles with a nice steady climb that takes about 12 minutes. I didn't get out of the saddle to honk not to pull on the arms, but for the ride of which was about an hour felt fine. The exercise bike in the gym has helped maintain my fitness to an adequate level. I did not put the clip less pedals and shoes back on though as I wouldn't want a sideways fall happening while trying to get shoe in at a junction etc. Over the next couple of weeks to a month I aim to go further starting with a few runs that I did like first ride out. Hopefully the weather will be picking up as well to enable me to give the new Btwin shorts the first airing

Awesome pal. I bet it was a nervy time, any little twinge you'd be feeling out for. I'm glad it went well, now you can look forward to enjoying the good old British summer after missing out a fair chunk of it.

Aye Mark easy does it to start with, given time you'll soon be back to firing on all cylinders, all the best.

Elbow fractures really hurt. I fractured my left elbow when I was 16 (I'm 28 now). I never regained the full range of motion I had before the break. I'm only a few degrees off getting it fully straight but it is noticeable. Make sure you keep doing the physio to try and loosen it up!
I don't find it affects me in day to day life and it doesn't affect my bike riding (although it hurt my triceps a bit when I first started as I guess it is a little weak and being crouched forward on the hoods stretched it a little bit more than normal).

I can bend it as far as the other arm give or take a few degrees when it comes to bending it back like touching my shoulder with my fingers but cannot fully straighten it as in locked at the joint yet but its not far off. I keep doing range of movement exercises every now and again. With regards to been on the bike I am now back to normal like when riding up hills out of the saddle and holding the hoods of the brake levers and can hold myself on the bars without any pain or weakness issues. I went out last Sunday (just over 13 weeks since I did it) and did about 35-40 miles that involved a lot of climbing.
