I wouldn't, aksiums are quite a bit better than 501s, and 700 aeros are basically aksiums by another name.
Plus, there's the reduced price for the knackered old wheel to consider.

Each to his own, £65 for a rear wheel compared to £67 for front and rear, dont know how much he got knocked off price of rear but atleast both wheels look same and have got good reviews from folks on this forum.

I have Mavic Aksiums on my T5. They are really good (for me). I get a nice and stiff ride and also find that power transfer when up out of the saddle is much better than with the old stock wheels. Furthermore, they spin much better. Finally, they have cartridge bearings rather than cone and cup, so require less maintenance.
I also have Aero's on my Mach. I have only had one ride on them so far, but they are very similar to the Mavics. Maybe not quite as stiff, but difficult to say after only one ride.
Both sets of wheels are not the lightest in the world, but they are robust.

My story...
I've had my Triban 5 for just over a year and after putting over 6,000 km all weather riding on it I've finally decided to upgrade the stock wheels to a pair of 700 Aero's. Up until now I've not been too fussed about upgrading the wheels - but it came to ahead after the gears started to become more untrustworthy, especially after coasting for a while and then putting power on - I would get a click/clack and a rapid quarter spin of the crank before re-engaging.
After fiddling with the rear adjuster I could not 'tune' it out. A strip down of the rear axle (and I've done this a few times and had it done by the LBS a few weeks ago) revealed:
- dirty mucky brown grease on the drive side - rusted ball bearings - spinning the wheel felt as if there was 1kg of gravel in the axle! - quite a wobbly cassette / freewheel (and also very grindy!) <<< This, I think is the source of the bad shifting - No way to tighten the cassette
Compared to my gf bike (a lovely CUBE Agree with Shimano RS11 wheels) that needs NO maintenance (except the annual service at the LBS) I decided to splash out on the new tubs.
Now, I just have to wait for DHL to deliver them...

whats the general opinion on the 700 AERO REAR WHEEL guys? Aksium copy. very similar to aksium in all ways bar price. Good wheel, but even more fragile, because optimised for lightness. Mavic has a rider limit for 220pounds/100kg for their Aksium wheels. I think the same will apply to the 700 aero wheels. If you are over that weight limit, you will need a stronger wheel set with more spokes and crossings than the 700 aero.

Had my 500 for a year and like Guyw my free hub bearings were a mess of brown grease and rust after 6 months/1200 miles even though I regreased mine on purchase and then every 400 miles using the Btwin grease. I have replaced my wheels with Fulcrum 7s and recently after breaking a back wheel spoke I also picked up a new set of R501s for winter use. The stock wheels now have a new free hub fitted £5 from decathlon ( couldnt be bothered with a warranty claim at that price point ) with new set of ball bearings from work ( free ) and are ready for use if needed in winter until they are knackered.

I am more than 220lbs and both the Aksium and Btwin copy seem to take my weight ok.

Short update: A quick twitter chat with @decathlonuk reveals they don't consider the freewheel under warranty (and as fearless says, it's a £4.99 part). They did point me to replacements www.decathlon.co.uk/Buy/freewheelcassette+hub - any thoughts on which one I should get to be able to reuse the old wheels as a decent spare / winter / wet set? Also, does anyone know the how to get the freewheel off. Is it a 10mm allen key and a mighty amount of elbow?

On my replacement it has the number SHBB5700BB ( bar code is 5 023857 494735 ) it came with an 11 mm adaptor which fits on a 6mm Allen key, I had bought a proper 11mm Allen key at a local tool store for £8.20 not knowing that this adaptor was included in the pack. It is fairly easy to remove with a normal thread.

New wheels arrived. A quick tour (16km) reveals:
- Less of a change than I thought regarding the 'feel' of the bike. Might be quicker or I might of been trying to avoid the dark clouds more earnestly... - Braking has improved. I was surprised about this as I've not changed the pads. - Gear changes much more reliable (hurrah!) - Tyre's are round and black. (Hutchinson Equinox2 - 66tpi, 220g - The Aero's build quality looks good. Nice sealed hubs and flat spokes. They don't come with rim tape. They do come with nice QR's! - Wheels are around 500g lighter as a set (like for like)
The old front wheel is probably going to be a keeper as a spare but the rear is probably not worth repairing.

Maybe useful if you ever get a turbo trainer?

My old Btwin wheel lives as the turbo wheel. Very useful.
