I'm planning a couple of rides coming up and whilst only having my lowly Garmin Edge 500 I'm trying to get the TCX files to work correctly.
My problem last time when I used PlotARoute.com was that it prompted me of the turn when I was on top of the turn and it drove me wild. I've been playing around with bikeroutetoaster and ridewithgps and bikehike and it would seem I cannot upload a GPX and it automatically read/plot and add the route points.
Bikeroutetoaster seemed pretty good as you can add the cue sheet to tell you about turns 100m before the turn etc (As I generally have no clue where I am going), however I can't find anywhere to do that automatically from a gpx file, or to amend a TCX file.
I'm looking at 70+ mile routes so ideally I don't want to have to run a route of these sites from start to finish...
What do you guys use? Anyone found a simple way of doing this?
Has anyone subscribed with RideWithGPS and found it worthwhile?

I use Ride with GPS, plot the route and export it as a TCX file. My Garmin 810 prompts me to turn up to a couple of 100 yards before the turn. Ride with GPS tends to make a pretty good job of the cue sheet but as far as i know its down to the garmin and not the cue sheet as to when it prompts you to turn.
On a big ride when i really don't know where i'm going i tend to spend a lot longer planning the route making sure i add control points before and after the turning. When i first got the garmin i had a few issues with missed turns, after reading up and experimenting with file types this seems to be a good solution.

I'm another advocate for RideWithGPS and exporting to TCX format. I PLAN the route, which automatically creates the cue sheet entry, then EXPORT as TCX. I have a Garmin 800 and it works beautifully. Doing a 3-day London to Amsterdam trip starting next Thursday, so hope the route works properly!!

RidewithGPS every time for routes like that, works faultlessly on Garmin 810, also worked well on the Garmin 500 I had previously

Had a good look at RidewithGPS tonight and seems good, I've used that data and loaded it into bikeroutetoaster to give me the directions 100m before the junction...lets see if it works at the weekend! I am going to ride a route I know, so perfect test.

Been using bikehike but only getting turn alerts when I am right on the turn. I've set it to alert me at 175ft before the course point but it never seems to. Might try ridewithgps next time.

Testing on the way home from work today to see if it works properly!
