I've tried the Elivar Recovery Chocolate & it tastes good. The product range is aimed at the 'older' athlete & I think it helps after a ride but have no personal evidence to share. They have a 25% off offer on at the moment if you're interested in trying, enter code 'summer25' - valid until end of this month. I've ordered the weekend combo pack to try out the Endure & Hydrate products. Anyone else use Elivar products?

I used to use Holland and Barret for a while, ISO power mixed with water. Think it did what it said on the tin, wee pinch of this and that and lemon flavoured it tasted okay.
Now though I tend to eat almost as soon as I come home from a ride. This varies toast and beans, omelet, tuna/pasta salad etc., etc.,! More or less what's kicking about the kitchen. The secret for me is the timing, read somewhere there is a window of opportunity of around 20-30 minutes. This apparently stops the hunger pangs, they can last all day with me if i'm not careful. Chocolate is sometimes included on the menu as well. Have not tried the products you mentioned.

I have whey protein shake as soon as I get home. It really does seem to limit snacking and reduce aching. All good.

i need to get back on track with nutrition but follow a 45/35/20 macro split to 2800 calories a day for lean gains when ive got the foresight to plan my meals 2 days in advance.

i seem to be low on energy the day after a ride rides are gentle paced (longer ones ie 3 + hours usually include a food break) get through 1-1 1/2 liters of fluid with oatgrain bars post food last three weekend rides have been 40+ miles with 3,200kcal, 4,800 kcal, 2,980kcal how many calories do i need to replace should i be taking electrolyte post ride drink

Those are some HUGE calorie losses for 40 miles, based on the correlation of may 1.5 years of data with HR, I'd need to do 95 miles, even on a very hilly day well over 80 miles.
That said, there's more energy you use repairing damage done.
If you are suffering dehydration effects post ride, then you'd need more electrolytes... I do after a really big one. But if I don't have my protein shake, I ache a lot and am ravenous, often the day after too - Not ideal given I try to ride at least 4 days a week.

Protein bars for before or during a ride, the Paleo chocolate ones are nice tasting (25g protein) from Poundland (obviously Β£1 each) and drink during a ride PowerBar Electrolytes tabs (makes 500-750ml per tab)

I'd expect it to make me feel sick.

I usually have one pre ride after other things (wholemeal toast - carb based foods) just have drink during ride (up to about 40 miles). They are not whey bars so taste like normal ones really.

During rides it will vary but usually a carb drink plus an electrolyte drink then a mixture of gels and flapjacks/sponge cakes/banana. Just different things to make it interesting... I've even stuffed a bit of baguette with cheese and ham in there!
Afterwards Antonio whey protein shake from decathlon, or if I'm out then chocolate milk.
