Working around capacity limits on Garmin GPS units I came across this article whilst planning a long tour. My (very) old Etrex H GPS is limited to 500 waypoints, but is otherwise fine for what I want. Started looking at alternative units and found it very difficult to get a clear view on what the capacity of the current Garmin lineup was. I found the linked site whilst trying to get to get to the bottom of this and it was very useful. Essentially, you use routepoints rather than waypoints; routepoints are much more efficient to store and I could get ten days (routes) each of around 600 routepoints each on an Etrex H. Downside, you can't name routepoints as landmarks. You can combine with waypoints, so had a separate route with my B&Bs marked as named waypoints - really useful when you are knackered at the end of a long day and end up slightly off route in a town. The site also contains lots of useful background on cycling GPS generally - well worth a look if you are trying get the most out of a basic unit. I'd suggest that you try it out on a local route first just to see how your unit handles it. Worked fine for me and got me through 1600km :-) www.aukadia.net/gps/lwg_22.htm

Chris Boardman was on Radio 5 live talking about that this morning. The more coverage the better and I must say I thought Chris handled the questions regarding his mothers recent cycling related death very well.

I should probably not be peer reviewing a BBC article, but still - isn't exactly compatible with each "session" lasts 12.5 minutes, or maybe 11 if you decide that the 5th rest is rather pointless as you've just finished. Of course the writer will no doubt claim the 90s off periods aren't exercise, but his definition was which sounds way easier than the 90s rests to me. Of course HIIT is awesome for the time crunched just after improved fitness.

There was no control group of elite athletes like ourselves. I don't think HIIT is of any benefit for me as it will no longer drive physiological change.

I don't think HIIT is of any benefit for me as it will no longer drive physiological change. Not sure thats true, just that the HI is really really really hard. I'm sure you can do a 60s interval that beating the living s*** out of you, I sure can.

Of course, whether it drives useful adaptions is a different question. Might be good if you want to go round acing the 60s strava segments, but really... nah. FTP or bust.

bbc.co.uk/sport/cycling/37309613Looks like this guy had more than a sideways glance. See how much more room the team car following gave him. Coach risked a head on and forced oncoming traffic to have to avoid it. How many times have we all been in this scenario?

You could argue that the guy is an idiot and it's right he should be reminded of this, but you could also be philosophical and suggest that this is the inherent problem with our road system - I'm sure a Team Sky coach driver has huge empathy for cyclists and wouldn't wish to harm one but when pushing on in our country there is risk (you can bet he needed to keep it moving to meet an itinerary set by the race and team); occasionally people are going to have lapses of judgement / concentration, driver error is fairly common, even with the good guys. It's not right of course but quite often it's not vindictive, this guy caught himself out and almost made the cyclist pay the price for his mistake, big lumps of metal and guys on bikes don't mix well.

at least he wasn't passing round a blind corner. How often have we been in that situation?
