The two pictures of the holes repaired are way beyond BAD. By replacing a hollow with an uneven mountain do they really think it will last longer! It just beggars belief...rant over.

At least they didn't top dress it. My parents village is beginning to be inescapable by road bike as they are top dressing all the roads to it.

There was a report earlier this week of a cyclist being found with serious injuries on Buttertubs pass with police appealing for witnesses. Unfortunately the 50 year old man from Middlesborough has died. It looks like he came off descending northwards and was found 200m from the top of the pass. There is a bad left handed kink in the road there at the bottom of the first steep descent as it passes the buttertubs (in the article phot) so please take care if you head that way. www.gazettelive.co.uk/news/teesside-news/middlesbrough-cyclist-dies-after-coming-10217111

Take care, mate. You seem to land on that bend and there is an instant kick off to the left. On the main descent after the switch back, you can reach speeds that are a bit of a snippet valve tester. I've reached 56 mph down there by holding off on the brakes until the last second. The danger there is a left hander just before the valley bottom. I don't think I'll try to better that speed as I am a bit more sensible nowadays and don't fancy headbutting a lovely old Yorkshire dry stone wall. I'm up that way on Sunday stopping at Grinton Lodge YHA.

will do - im pretty cautious by nature anyway.
just thinking about the article - the police are looking for witnesses. Easy - a rider on a canyon bike over buttertubs would be using strava. look at his ride, will give exact timings, and also speed when crashed, and be able to track any other riders by using flyby.
