Mine cost Β£40 from Amazon, it's not great but it's not bad and it gets used well by Junorad and I - the lad has been doing 'bicycle boot camp' over half term, I set him up in the lounge and leave him to it, come back occasionally to see how he's cooking . In fact, it works better for him than me, as it doesn't have variable resistance and I can overpower it (spinning it up at 180 rpm in top gear has the house vibrating); it's not really loud at normal speeds though (especially on the carpet as opposed to floor boards). I just adapt workouts to suit the thing. They're either easy spins, or HIIT, with lots of out the saddle work done with strict form. I suspect a nicer one might be better for me but it's only turbo training, not riding, so it's never going to be that much fun, although I do like the effects of maintaining activity levels and the leg benefits of hill exercises - following GCN drills and using ipBike / Deca Ant+ sensors to regulate efforts is probably a higher priority than the quality of the turbo. The one I've got is still harder to spin than rollers and a bit of cadence doesn't do any harm; I may get a better one next Autumn so we can both use them at the same time.

I've got the first one but didn't get the block with it. Only used about 6 times but seems ok. It can provide a fair bit of resistance. It's quite noisy but mine's in the shed so not a problem.

Cheers guys, went with the first one (www.halfords.com/cycling/accessories/turbo-trainers/elite-magnetic-force-trainer-pack) Seems a good price for what you get, and it's about time I got one. The bad weather seems to be keeping me in a lot lately so it will be nice to be able to do something even when it's awful outside. Hopefully the DVD will give me some focus, and the fact that I'll actually be on a proper bike should make a difference too.
Came at just the right time I think, having a pig-out weekend and will probably take a week (or more) to work all of this food off! Pizza Hut order is on it's way...Large Texan BBQ, chicken strips and garlic bread. Got Ben and Jerry's Peanut Butter Cup ice cream in the freezer too. And the meal I had last night was a Pork bonanza - 2 sausages, gammon steak, half a rack of ribs, pulled pork, chips, onion rings and coleslaw, followed by a big wedge of fudge cake with ice cream.
And I wonder why I'm not back at my pre-Christmas weight yet
