How are you finding those Oryx cantilever brakes Macomac?

I'll wait to test the bike before giving you a good opinion

is it normal for cyclocross bikes to have two sets of brake levers? I've never looked at cyclocross bikes before, but having taken the T5a on a route that would have been more suited to a cyclocross bike yesterday (due to a fallen tree), I'm a bit curious.

I don't know about normal, but many of the CX bikes sold as potential commuters have them. I have the next edition of the bTwin CX bike that Macomac has and that has the same Tektro canti brakes with interruptor levers just like this one. I think the Boardman CX bikes have them too ( damo6?) These interruptor style levers are good although I tend to ride on the hoods and don't use them much. They offer the same kind of braking power as the main levers, which more than can be said of the levers in Paulinblack's pic above, which were cheerfully known as "suicide levers". I had a set of those on the Weinmann brakes on my old Raleigh Equipe...

those brakes don't stop the bike, just slow down it Do you mean the interruptor levers or the canti brakes in general Macomac? I've found the Oryx canti brakes on my bTwin CX to be under powered for my liking (plus causing front fork judder when they do manage to engage because of the long cable pull from the stem mounting on the front brake). Have been exploring other options such as mini V-brakes with some advice and experience from the ever helpful chas.

I had those with Weinmann centre pull cantis on my Dawes Galaxy too (prob c. 1990). Sadly I had frame failure on that one (sheared chainstay), but the silver red lining was the T3 I bought to replace it

Whatever happened to these? Suicide levers were a menace and beautifully nicknamed. If you have your hands there, you are likely to only need them to perform an emergency stop. But there's an issue, to stop with them, you have to pull UP, taking your weight away from the wheel and hence making the wheel MUCH more likely to lock up, your weight will likely transfer down when you hit the thing you were emergency stopping for.

I've only tested mine but I heard about friends Canti are not so good than road brakes.
A little upgrade coming soon
