Only just noticed this thread. Sorry that you are going through this @robert. Hope the pain eases soon and you make a speedy and full recovery.

Thanks folks and a wee update;
It's now 17 days off the bike I see my local GP this coming Friday. This will be to review pain management meds, for the most part they are working well but causing some tummy problems. Also want to check out arrangements on physiotherapy once healing has taken a step forward, hopefully but the end of this month, fingers crossed!
Please let my accident/foolishness/laps of concentration be an example that trying to squeeze in a few more miles when conditions aren't too good isn't always worth it...stay safe.

Hope it is improving Robert, sounds dreadful! Friend of mine (not a road cyclist, just uses a regular 'pedal bike') was cycling a few hundred yards back to his house a couple of weeks ago when he hit black ice. Took a nasty tumble, smashed his face up and badly broke his thumb. He was going slowly. It's not worth the risk with freezing roads!

There have been a lot of 'if only's' running round my head but if my experience makes someone else stop and think good and well. Now 29 days down the road and feel that there is now quite a significant improvement...thank God.
