At work I take the bike up and down stairs a lot.
I find that my instinctive grip (possibly because of my short stature) is to grab the top tube in one hand and other on handlebars.... but this squashes a cable against the frame... surely over time this will wear the paint, cable against frame.
So whats your thoughts? Do you bother about this, or do you pickup the bike elsewhere? Saddle (too high for me)? Seattube?
Interested in thoughts and methods.
Bear in mind that stairs do mean you have to lift the bike higher than usual, thus why I cant use the saddle as a handle.
Cheers Alex

Grab the seat tube at the very top (the top tube and seat stays will rest on the top of your hand). Then your other hand on the drops of the bars. This should give you enough lift. if not then hand with palm facing up under the top tube and lift up to shoulder height.

I just lift from under the saddle. It can be a bit awkward carrying it up stairs as the front wheel can catch the stairs but all ok so far.

I got a roll of similar tape from Aldi a while ago, it's been in a few times since, really good stuff thick and protective but enough stretch to fit curved surfaces. As well as cable rub I use 2 or 3 layers on the chainstay.

Thanks folks some great replies there I imagine the shouldering will rub cable against tube. Will try the seat tube and if fails, will get some tape Cheers

So shall we enter this one into thread of the year, it could be right up there among the best? Unless anyone can come up with anything more exciting last minute - @davefy7 's 'how to paint things grey and watching it dry' has potential for a last minute surge mind you?

I commented on what that looks like on another site - answers on a post card ... actually don't, I've had to shut one thread down today already !

... and on a more serious note, who was worried about paint wear? Having that thing rattling around and holding grit is a sure fire paint killer.
