For my youngest son. He's shooting up like a weed at the moment and is around 5ft 9in (probably going to grow to about 6ft 4in). He doesn't ride a bike much and currently has an old heavy Giant MTB. I was thinking of getting him a 'lighter' bike for Xmas or his b'day shortly after. I looked at the Decca site and am torn between: Fit 300- Light - Bigger wheels - Faster Or Rockrider 500- More rugged and better bumping up and down curbs etc? - Cooler for a 13 year old? Or Am I letting my limited knowledge of bikes be swayed by my T5 which I adore. Should I be looking elsewhere for something for him? What do the good people of the BROC think?

I think for a 13yr old the rock rider would be the better choice, he might consider the Fit 300 as a bit 'grown up'. Kids can be a bit fickle, the main interest maybe the colour of it in the end!!! - the orange one is pretty cool. I don't think you'll get a better offering for the price than B'Twin bikes, I bought my lad (14yr) a Muddy Fox MTB last year for the same price, I don't think it's a patch on the Rock Rider. (I didn't know about Decathlon at the time)

We bought a Rockrider 500 about a month ago for my wife. (Only went into Deca Southampton for something to do on a wet day)! The OH and I have been so impressed with it the in-laws have agreed to buy me one as a joint birthday/christmas present as an upgrade to my elderly Carrera Vulcan. Currently on order due early next week. Will make us a 3x BTwin 1x Specialized family. BTwin are extremely good value for money but their delivery is not in the same league as Chain Reaction/Wiggle. My advice, go for the Rockrider you won't be disappointed.

Just read my emails and came here to break the same good news Paulinblack, but the ever sharp Dave got here first! Looks like an absolute bargain now. Just a shame it's not red!

Thanks @davefy7 & ChrisD ! The problem is though that I think he might need an XL. They do them in black, but they are more expensive and 'out of stock'. I will probably call Decca tomorrow!

I must point out that the special edition blue RR500 has a V brake on the rear so not as good spec as the Black or Orange versions

I'm still waiting for a RR 560 to come into stock in Southampton and might just trek to Surrey Quays as apparently I can get my Cyclescheme certificate changed over.

Still haven't got this sorted and its the boys birthday tomorrow! Am going to take him somewhere to buy a bike in the next few days. Am still not sure what to get.
Having been riding my Trek mtb the last couple of days I've noticed how heavy it is - I'm worried that the Rockrider will be too. Also, I'm thinking that it might be better to get something with bigger wheels, to make it easier to ride.
Any advice on other brands or should I stick with a Rockrider?

Oh! Looks like they have one in my local store. Might pop down there and have a look. EDIT: Only worry now is they only do this in a 51 & 54 - Thats pretty small isn't it? Son is about 5ft 10' now.

cross bikes size smaller as the BB shell has to be higher for the ground clearance.

They suggest the 54cm suitable for 5'9 to 6'2
