A mate of mine told me the other day...
There is 'somewhere' that you can write/email to in order to place objections against sentences being too lenient (and I suppose too harsh?) for a particular case. If they get enough objections, they are duty bound to alter the sentence.
I'm guessing that the above is not for cases such as mentioned in the OP, but for more minor ones which have been judged in magistrates courts. I'll ask him next time I see him if I remember, he said he was going to be doing a LOT of writing!
