When you compare them (the latter one being one of the steepest alpine ones) to one we did on the weekend, you see that we could do them OK if we kept on four times as long (which we did if you add up the whole climbs on the ride), just takes a long time on one hill - thankfully, despite what grenoblet5a says, the alpine ones don't often have nasty genuine 20% bits too often like you'd imagine they would app.strava.com/segments/644948 .

If you hit genuine 20%+ and I mean an actual gradient for a section of climb, not just at bends and with glitches in Strava data, where it isn't reading the actual road but surroundings, then you certainly know it.
Genuine 20%+ will have some pro's off walking at times, not always of course but if they're not feeling fresh or not geared right, caught by bad weather or bunching etc. then it just might (watch the racing today to see if they all get up).
True data is your friend with climbs - you can use VeloViewer to see the colour gradients of climbs, so you know how to gauge your efforts.

Thanks mate. I will continue to try the long slopes of average inclination around me and just looking to get up them a bit quicker (as per thread intention). No intention of going near seriously steep slopes and don't claim to have done so. Maybe later when I get a bit fitter and better. Thanks for link once again Cheers, Barry. PS just got an aversion to being misquoted

Joking aside, I am genuinely interested in your routes, I used to ski all over the place in younger days, love it out there and my long term aim is to get out and cycle the Alps properly in due course.

The uphill bit of this mornings effort - tried to remember the advice from the videos but ended up grinding away . Think the 11/12-28 is a must buy! app.strava.com/activities/133978589 not working... Need to edit from PC (like what I was told ) www.strava.com/activities/133978589/overviewjust playing at the edges at the moment - hoping to push onwards and upwards (albeit very slowly compared to everyone else round here )
