Can you ski under control with your legs apart and a junior between them on reigns then Big Brother ? Would take about 4 feet of powder to get me wobbly !

...and if you look closely, the lad was in the phase of not bothering with edges at all and just scooting down in straight lines, at this point if there were no reigns holding him back he'd be disappearing onto the beer terrace just below (yes it happened a few times when he was let loose).

Have always worn one for the last 20 years of various types of cycling, ever since I was knocked off 3 days before my wedding and ended up in a&e with concussion and my nose broken in two. The wedding photos were a picture

Went out yesterday. Nice sunny day. 5 degrees. set off 11.30 Just cruising with my OH Round a bend ........ and woke up in an ambulance 40 minutes later. Still can't remember anything. OH says I went down hard on black ice. Got up ans said I was OK , carried on pedalling until the next junction (half mile?). I don't remember talking gibberish, being taken to a house, getting agitated, or anything until the nice young men in their clean white coats .......... Scan, xray, mild concussion bent bike, bruises ............ and a cracked helmet. Why wouldn't you wear one?

Unquestionably mandatory! Anyone who doesn't wear one has obviously not suffered a proper tumble, or has little regard for their future well-being. Sets a good example to the kids too (I have 3)

It's scary that you managed to get up and do a bit more before the effects kicked in. Although the best advice is to give yourself a bit of time to make sure that you really are all right, I think I would have done just the same. It makes me think though, what happens if you have an 'off' miles from anywhere? Perhaps it's better to use that lucid period to get back to civilisation? Luckily these days, I usually have a mobile phone. Note to self and others... If you have any incident when cycling alone, stop and phone someone to tell them where you are, even if you think you're ok.

Yikes! sounds nasty oldtimerThis lovely sunshine we're having does lull you into a bit of a false sense of security. I keep forgetting that those shady side roads and country lanes are like skating rinks half the time - until I turn in to them a feel the back wheel head sideways! Glad you're okay - looks like helmet shopping is on your agenda for the weekend then...

Wiggle delivering new hat tomorrow The bike certainly has a bent lever ..... I can remember looking at it....... and I'll be picking the bike up from where it was left yesterday (I haven't a clue where that is despite it being one of our regular routes!) Other than that, let's hope it's ok
The scary thing is not being able to remember anything. I rode on after the fall, and it was only when we got to the next junction that I zoned out: had no idea where we were, where we had come from, or where we lived! In the ambulance I apparently I lied about my age and birthdate, thought we were in the run up to Christmas , and snarled at the OH for taking us out 'on a day like this'.
OK now.... headache and bruises.

ALWAYS like a few have already shared; i too have made contact with the tar mac, none of us will ever know or want to know what might have been if we had been without our head gear.
