Wasn't me SpoakesI've heard of Jim Bowen however, may be related. Think he may be a T3 lover, he used to always say "Keep out of the black and stay in the red!!!" Super, smashing, lovely!

Was trying to find information about a replacement rear mech hanger for a Alur 700 and ended up here.
Aiming to turn my Alur into a long-distance 300km+ fast tourer (saddle & tires replaced so far) so any recommendations for new parts welcome!

Found you guys through google whilst looking to buy my first road bike.
I am on a very tight budget so I thought I'd cancel my gym membership (which has almost doubled in price in the last 2 years) and buy a better bike for commuting and fun. The mountain bike I currently have is fine (I guess) but I want something lighter and faster so I started looking for good budget road bikes... and that led me to the B'Twin range.
Haven't actually bought one yet but from going through the forum I thought I'd sign up anyway. You seem like a good bunch. And I'd like your opinion on what I'm looking at, if that's alright :-D

In my humble opinion I think the 520 is a very hard act to beat.

Yep, welcome, cycling from your front door is more doable than getting to the gym (IME). So fire away with 'the questions', there's loads of folks on here to stick in their 2 penneth - although to cut to the chase, you can't really go far wrong with any of the starter bikes from Deca these days, so it's not going to be difficult to get started ... it's pick a budget that suits you and get on with it IMO ... but ultimately, the cheapest they do will suffice as a training tool, it may not be the most refined thing compared to what the likes of the Laura Trott are riding but is most likely nicer to ride than any static bike at the gym. ... once you're out on the road for a while it gets more complicated though, as the elements mean you do have to get proper kit and delve into maintenance, cleaning etc ... but on the other hand, that's also about developing other interests, learning new skills and part of the deal.

Thanks for the welcomes :-) Hi & welcome to you I use an old mtb for most of my rides around where I live so that when I use my T3 (One of the posh ones ) it feels a lot faster I'm getting sick of being the slowest thing round the roundabouts here, and hauling the heavy MTB up 4 floors of stairs! Welcome. Interested to know which of the range you go for in the end. In my humble opinion I think the 520 is a very hard act to beat. Well I'm looking at the second hand market or the 500se due to being a poor student lol. ...the cheapest they do will suffice as a training tool, it may not be the most refined thing compared to what the likes of the Laura Trott are riding but is most likely nicer to ride than any static bike at the gym. ... once you're out on the road for a while it gets more complicated though, as the elements mean you do have to get proper kit and delve into maintenance, cleaning etc ... but on the other hand, that's also about developing other interests, learning new skills and part of the deal. Well the cheapest is what I'm aiming for at the moment. When I graduate, and if I stay interested, I might just get something fancy but for now I'm just aiming for something that will get me too and from my volunteering thingy and maybe a run out to the next town over for a nice coffee and a bit of cake :-) willing to learn to look after it, will be neccessary- plenty of them "elements" on the west coast of Scotland!

The SE is sound, no problems there, on here (this forum), I believe a fair few of us have demonstrated that it's more about rolling out the miles and commitment to riding, rather than having the 'best bike'. Following on with that concept, the 'best bike' is probably one you get out and ride a lot, one that you aren't too precious about getting mucky ... but one that you like enough to also take the time to clean, which is done to ensure it looks after you in return for the effort applied - longevity / simplicity / affordability counts for a lot with bike riding.

Already own a Triban 500 for almost a year. Was researching the Triban 300 for a friend of mine who's new to road cycling and wants to start off. Found a thread on here that gives a good personal review of it and was excited to see an owners club! Wish i knew about this a year ago!

I found you guys through a Google search I think.
Plain, simple and pretty boring answer.
