I'll admit right now that I'm no IT expert, but the spec sounds very good indeed. My only reservations are Windows 8, which hasn't had great reviews, and McAfee security which will just try to take over your system!!!

What are you planning to use it for? I'm using windows 8 and tbh and isn't that bad. Got startisback installed so it feels the same as windows 7. Meant to be more optimised than windows 7 and use ssd's better. Certainly no complaints from me (well, no more than normal). McAfee I don't know much about, but if you don't want to use it there are perfectly good free antivirus programs

Looks a good spec lappy for that price m8, windows 8 i haven't tried , get rid of the McAfee as Del says it'll hog your lappy, AVG free does just as great a job and much lighter on the system, bit of advice .... buy a mouse for it, track pads on laptops are so annoying imo.

It's not very good I'm afraid it doesn't make the tea and hasn't got a kitchen sink! You said anything!

Just bits of everything from and odd game to watching films, writing documents, editing photos. Maybe some design programs in the future. I want to be able to get a computer that is good for many years, so don't end up having to buy a new computer because it is not good enough to run somthing new.
Yeah I do not like windows 8 layout that much, have it on the laptop I have now. But it is quick to load up etc.
No experience with Mcafee, have always used Norton, which has saved my computer many times. Have tried free AVG etc in the past, maybe 5 years ago, and it did not protect my comp very well when on dodgy sites downloading, so wary to go free again.

When I had it I was downloading and occasionally would pick up a virus etc. Had to do allsorts to get them off. I got my bank account rinsed around that time too. But Norton always caught and quarantined anything dodgy. Always got it faiurly cheap. £20 or so. But it does use up computer power with its bloody scans and updates.

I've used avast for years now, free and never had any problems. Don't need to do weekly scans or anything as it does it all on the fly as you access things to stop it before you even get the virus - tried to go to a couple of sites where it has popped up and blocked access. Doesn't seem to hinder performance at all either, or at least not noticeably.

Pop ups? haven't had any in years also, you must be getting them from clicking links or by installing things that have add-ons, i use Firefox browser which has a pop up blocker which prolly helps, dont know which your using but worth while to see if it has a blocker and turn it on also d/l malwarebytes for spyware removel...... used that for years also

Pretty good for the price. I personally prefer nVidia graphics cards, but that AMD one is good. I was unsure about Windows 8 at first but I've grown to quite like it. A few things are annoying, and it takes a bit of getting used to, but overall it is a good OS. Also the built in antivirus stuff is perfectly fine so I wouldn't bother with McAfee. If you did want to get a separate antivirus then I would suggest AVG Free.

That could be a whole new debate Generally I think it depends on the game and different generations of the hardware, probably swings between the two so I wouldn't say nvidia is necessarily better than amd.
