So...finally getting round to getting a proper helmet. Went into my Local Evans yesterday and tried a few on and decided the Specialized Echelon is the one for me (nothing to do with the red and white paint job )...Tried on both the medium and large...Medium looks good and fits well, but the large sits lower on my head (but looks huge!)...I thought I'd measure my head, to make sure...and it's 58cm. Look at the sizing charts: Medium = 54cm-60cm Large = 57cm-63cm WHAT?!

With a helmet, it's not just the size, the shape of your head also comes into it. Try lots of helmets, and you will find what you need!

The medium Echelon seemed to fit the best out of the ones I tried yesterday but with all the various sizing things, I'm now doubting! The large looked utterly ridiculous and made me look like a pin head though!

If it feels right, go with it. Heads come in different shapes and sizes, helmets normally only come in different sizes. Try to find a helmet that fits your shape of head, and then the sizing can be more accurate.

fatman is right. Take guidance from the sizing chart but ultimately it's how comfortable it is on your head. You'll be having the helmet on for many hours potentially so something that is tight and secure without feeling uncomfortable. Also if it's to big, it's no good as it may slip off or move when it comes to the crunch. p.s. doesn't matter if it looks huge. So does mine but I have a big head. More substance to protect
