It is not uncommon for bikes on display not to be properly adjusted because we're under pressure to get them built and know that they'll be given final adjustment during the 'safety check'. On other models we have to swap the brakes over so they have usually been looked at but the red Triban 3 is now only available in the UK so comes with the brakes the right way round and may have been poorly set up at the factory. This again would be looked at in the 'safety check'. It is unreasonable to critisise the adjustment of the bike before it has had it's final adjustment

just a hunch but heres my advice decathlon SHOULD be offering us facet 5s for 150 quid, or free to senior members of this forum who relentlessly promote btwin bikes day after day fin Maybe but the whole point is we've all bought into the idea of old style commercialism, where a product does what it says on the tin and the punter invests his own time on 'make do and mend' ownership from there. It's how the French and British built an aircraft industry and wars were won ... but the new modern twist is that the offerings are put up with a fairly sound product line in the first instance, at genre defining price levels; they do require that the punter gets with the program of tweaking and maintenance / self sufficiency of bike management in general. If you're good with spreadsheets and still embezzling the nation's pension funds, which results in a surplus of cash and a follow on of feeling the need to spend 4K on a bike (with bike fit thrown in), as the cost of biking demands your actions in acquiring funds in the first place, completing the circle of bullshizzle, then Decathlon ain't really the place to be starting at IMHO - vive la revolution!

As I've previously mentioned. My bike was badly set up when i bought it, but the staff have always been super helpful, just got a less knowledgable staff member that day. Today I popped in because i never got the 8 degree spacer pads for my levers and I could do with them. They are so disorganised that it took them about 20 minutes to find them, but they persevered and I went home a happy bunny, only problem was it took them so long that i ended up spending money! Apologies, but at the factory they seem to grab a handful of random spacers for each bike - it's very rare to find the correct 4. I make sure I find a full set when selling one of the small sizes but didn't think adults used them.

No need to apologise. They sorted me out fine. the 4 degree spacers were already on the bike, the packs they gave me had the 8 degree and the bung to use when removing all spacers. Sorted.

Ah, just noticed you've got the T7, as you say they come with some spacers already in, the others being in two small plastic bags which they stuff under the seat rails at the factory and often fall out in transit, during building or in the showroom

Poor brakes judged from a ride around the store? Blimey yes, I went fast enough in the store to do a few 'endies' ;-)

Taking the OP at face value for a moment. I have had similar issues in Decath, depending on who you talk to, they can be brilliant, or brilliantly stupid.
I think its a problem with big retailers in general, lets take halfords, a few weeks back my wife ordered a bike from 1 halfords store, went through the normal mess around that always happens and eventually we picked the bike up, then I spent an hour or so setting the gears correctly, flipping the tyres so they were traveling in the right direction....etcettera. Also while I was there I asked them to have a look at my MTB real wheel because the freehub was knackered and needed replacing. The guy there said that it would take a week to look at and then they would decide if it was a warranty repair or not.
Anyway I took the wheel to the other Halfords on the way home from work, the guy looked at it, said yeah, we have seen this a lot, ill order you a new one and will have it tomorrow. THe guy remembered me from when I got my bike on C2W and asked if I was going to upgrade, told me that new models were coming in soon and there will be discounts on the older Boardmans, he also said that he knew it was still a few months until my work did C2W again, but he could order me the bike I have been drooling over and keep it out back until sept/oct and if the price drops, I get the lower price, even if it drops next week he will make sure I get the lower price...he thinks they will go down about 10%. He then told me about the discount that I can get for being a member of BC, another 10%. So i have saved Β£200 on a bike the dude knew I was going to buy anyway, plus the Β£300 or so that Ill save with C2W, its sitting in the back with my name on it, so no need to worry about not being able to get my size as its the old model, my MTB wheel is sorted, and so far I havent paid out a penny...oh BTW this was not some swifty sales tactic, this is the mechanic having a chat and making customers happy,
so the moral of my story is, dont always judge all stores by 1 experience, Ill never go back to the St Helens Halfords, but will go back to the one in Warrington...but not on weekends (another story)

There are two guys in my local Halfords who are absolutely brilliant. If they aren't working I don't go in.

As already stated above coming on a Triban forum and basically asking is it worth by a T3 seems a bit like asking if the Pope is Catholic. The fact many on here have one and it has positive magazines reviews tells the story.
I appreciate you may get some staff more helpful than others, but I drove 80 miles to the Lakeside store and purchased it there and then. The staff even measured it before I purchased to see if we could get in the back of my Audi A3 (with my five family members in it as well) with the wheels off. It did just and she also helped me put it in the car. Also as mentioned once purchased the guy in the shop spent 15 mins checking it over sorting gears and brakes etc.
The fact the T3 is as rare as hen's teeth proves it is a great buy. Get one if you can, buy some mods if you don't like brakes etc and get a local bike shop to sort it if you don't want to do it yourself or Decathlon. As Cycle Active said pound for pound the [T3 red] is the best bike available anywhere!

Like Stevo, I also got cracking around the store when I bought my T3, I was frightening mums with kids at times, even though I was very careful to ride slowly when they were anywhere near. The impression I got from fellow customers was that I shouldn't really be riding it all. Ha!
I can't say that I found any problems as I couldn't go far enough but I did have the salesman alter seat and bars to try and get a good feel of the bike. I wouldn't have expected them to remove the tapes though. The chap who dealt with me really knew his stuff, I've seen on subsequent visits that the "mechanics" have asked him to look at bikes they are struggling to get right (MTB in for service, not T's).
I agree with the OP in that the bike was not well set-up. It was rideable certainly, but I was very disappointed the first time out and it took a lot of messing to get it running nicely including a visit back to the shop where the mech tried to fob me off; I didn't drive there with the bike for one twist of a barrel nut and a "see how you go with that"! Mine needed a new crank as the rings were bent, it shouldn't have been sold like that.
We got what we paid for, which is a nice bike, quite cheap, that with a little care and some fettling holds it's own against something which costs a lot more. Don't get me wrong, I'm pleased as punch with mine, but the number of problems that people on here have had surely says something about how well set up they are initially? The 'dry hubs' issue alone is a disgrace.

Never been to a Decathlon store, ordered it over the phone. Gears badly set up, came with a puncture on the rear wheel. Bike was badly packaged though (pedals and bars boking out of the box!) But no real cosmetic damage to it remarkably. Bike is great, though was initially a bit disappointed with it. Main gripe is still the rather bendy bottom bracket though, which slightly mars the riding experience for me! Will likely try to replace the BB at some point, prob get LBS to do it though.

Fair comment, bent cog rings is not on. Mine came in a box, has never been in a store. No dry hubs here, they were slightly over tight but that's better than the opposite - the rear mech wasn't quite set right but simply adjusted with a twist of the barrel, they erred on the safe side of not clipping the spokes, so not a bad thing IMO; the rear wheel wasn't quite true (the wheels IMO are dire and could be better, even on such a bargain bike), I adjusted all this before even riding the bike on it's first proper outing; the wheel issue I don't consider reasonable to expect the punters to deal with fresh out the box for a new bike, the rest I think are things that you might expect to self service and likely to happen with any bike. I will wait to see if the OP ever returns, or whether this thread was just fishing for doubt.
