I have been a lurker to this forum for a few months now, and was considering a 3.. Anyway last week (now the sun is here) I was finally gave in to my desire and took the plunge. However, as anyone who is a regular reader will know the original red T3 is very hard to come by. None available (in my size) at my local Reading store and none online either. With a feeling of regret at missing the boat last Friday I ordered a white 3A...
It hasnt arrived yet (due this Fri), and as I was in the area I popped into Decathlon on Reading. Whilst there, I checked out the 3A (which I had decided on mainly on the word from this forum about how good the original 3 was but never actually seen in person). It is a V nice bike, but they had a 5A there also which seemed a good bit lighter and more solid in its build (maybe just my novice imagination).
Anyway short story short, there are no 5As in the store or available online at the moment, but the bloke said they would have in 2-4 weeks (but no gaurentee). Do you guys think it worth holding on for a 5A (and end up paying £130 extra, and risk loosing the best of the summer), or go with the 3A...? FYI, I am a novice on a road bike, this is my first.

There are still some red T3s about. What size are you? You can get it from any store, they should post it out to you for £14.99. Just phone them up, I presume you've tried a couple in store for size already. The 5A is a bit better than the original T3, ie better chainset and gears (sora 9 speed versus 2300 8 speed), slightly lighter. Whether it is £130 better is debateable though. There is always this one, (though I can't find any reviews the spec list is impressive at this price point: www.bikesdirect365.com/products/Indigo-Vuelta-AR2%2C-Sports-Road-Bike%2C-18-Speed.html

60s are quite rare so you've been lucky there! If Decathlon have sent it already you will likely have to return it (unused) and they will refund it (less the postage). If the packaging is anything like as bad as mine was (a pedal and handlebar were poking out of the box!) you would probably be within your rights just to reject it outright at your front door and demand a full refund if the box is in anyway damaged. If they haven't sent it (have you had a despatch email? I think they sent it 48 hour so probably hasn't left yet) then ring the store up asap and tell them to cancel the order.

if your budget allows, just get the 5a, its a better bike decathlon would swap them over if an order is already in place

I would not use the white t3......order the red t3 or t5a.Take back the white one when your new bike comes in.
I think you will always regret not spending that little bit more........ But of course that depends on how tight your budget is.

Just to save starting a new thread.
I'm about to buy my first T, and the question is, the Red T3 which i understand to be the original, or the Black T5 (not sure if thats the new one or not)
Is it worth the extra? its a nice looking bike and being a bike noob I've heard the SORA additions are a good plus. However, just starting out that extra £130 could go towards helmet, clothing, shoes, new pedals etc...
Just not sure that it's worth it but don't want to get the 3 and feel i've missed out not getting the 5a. Any advice?
Edit: And can I ask what size wheels the bikes take? noob question I know.

Just look around the forum. Lots of people here have the T3 red and love it. They are not that many left and the general idea is that they wont be in production much longer. The T5a is a very good bike for the money, just look around its the general idea.

I think the t5a is what the new t3 should've been. The 3a is a step back IMO

I did try last night, well this morning but the search function was throwing an error about database issues so was useless to use. I also did a google search on here and found a thread where someone said they'd made a comparison and chart to see which bike is best for you however google couldn't find that thread...

I got the T3a from the Reading store a few weeks ago and I'm really happy with it. I know the red 2012 is slightly superior (carbon forks vs alloy and Shimano vs Microshift) but I liked the look of the white one when I was able to compare them in store (sacrilege!)
So far absolutely no regrets and if I ever do choose to upgrade I probably wouldn't look past Decathlon.
The T5 looked excellent but I couldn't justify the extra cash because I really wasn't sure how I would take to road riding.

I waited a month for my 5a,and am so glad i waited. If u settle for the 3a u will kick urself. Never settle!!! If u are asking these questions now, it will never leave ur thoughts. I'm sure the 3a is a grand bike but ,on my first impressions, the 5a is a great bike. Hold out.

Just my Thoughts.
The T3a is actually a nice looking bike, and the Microshift levers look pretty good to me (My hybrid has a Microshift front mech), but, the lack of a carbon fork could mean a pretty hard ride up front (My hybrid has an alloy fork). Personally i'd leave it and go with the original T3
T3 vs T5a - I prefer the release levers integrated with the brake lever over the thumb shifters, and for a price difference of £129 you'd struggle to upgrade the T3 to full Sora. After all you get the same frameset on both
Same goes for the T5 (white) and T7a. I love my T7a. got no regrets at all.
