Once again thanks goffski , probably just a bit nervy , not knowing what to expect & all . That link with the info on has been a big help as well So thanks for that whitey . You are not the only one sheffs! I have actually done 26 miles just within 2 hours and I am still worrying!!!! goffski must be a pro to be so cool! Currently trying to find the time to go over the route on google: Pinch point? Where everyone comes together because of road furniture (I think thats whats its called) Old Aston Road turn left to Mancunian Way - wide railway bridge arches a good hundred meters or so. Look out for it. It seems flat all the way from start point 1.5 miles away. I wish mate, this is my first event, i only ever ride alone or with one other mate so riding in a group could be a bit tricky. I might be riding this one with a lad i know and his club but not too sure yet, think i'd rather go it alone. Regarding the route, it's flat so nothing to worry about there, i know Manchester so know pretty much where it all goes, distance is fine for me as i'm use to that kind of milage. There's a couple of technical sections that will slow us down around Old Trafford (know this area very well) and could be tricky with the amount of riders, but surly this won't hold you up as much as traffic, traffic lights etc when out on the road. The only thing thats slightly worrying me is the speed, i know i need to ride at 18.5 mph average (think it's about 42/43 mins per lap), i'm currently riding this no problem over 30 ish miles but this does tend to drop off a little over bigger distances, but again i can put some of this down to traffic, slowing down and speeding up at lights, getting lost, checking the map and a lot more climbing. It's looking like it's going to be quite a nice day for it with a bit of wind that should help on the second half of the lap.

I decided not to bother, as I could only get on the 26 miler. I did contemplate riding to/from manchester (34 miles each way) but i've decided to go on the usual sunday club run instead.
Hope you all have a good ride

Good idea whitestar , might have a look on google earth too . I did around 25 miles last Sunday but it was up to the high peak in Derbyshire & that took about 2hrs 20 including breaks ect . So that was why I was a bit worried.

So. How did everyone get on? Well that's a very good question. It took me 2 hours to get to Manchester. Some distance into the ride I got hit by cramps in the calf muscles of bout legs. I can only assume that it was the driving position that caused it because last week I did 54 miles and didn't have any issue. I had another attack further on and on the second lap another - excoriating pain in the right leg muscle. Was offered pills by the ambulance medic but said no, couldn't see how that would help. Finished with an official time of 1:32 hrs. Not bad, was targeting 1:40 hrs. I was with the leaders group until the first attack and that dropped me, but the last was the worst. Had to stop and this lady was there taking pictures of me in pain - what was she thinking? app.strava.com/activities/63846144

Official time for me was 2.33 so much quicker than I was expecting. Avg speed 20.39mph. I was just over a mile into my 3rd lap and my chain snapped! Thought the ride was over but after messing about I managed to get it back on and made it to old Trafford where the guys from halfords fixed it for me. With out them and the steward it would have been over for me.
Looking at my lap times and cycle computer I lost about 8 mins due to this so was gutted!
Over all it was a great day and a great experience, look forward to next year.

Thats a cracking time considering a mechanical, I have no doubt if I had done the 52 my average speed would have been 16-17 mph

Well I can understand goffski. I am still sore from the cramps yesterday. I am sure I could have kept up with the leaders pack. That is still a very quick time for 52 miles. Was looking around for you people but everyone I saw with a Triban didn't know about the forum. Very strange that I kept finding the wrong people!!! That's a lot of PR for the forum.

My question is why where there so many Pinarello bikes? Was everyone there that loaded?

Cheer guys, i was going to ride with a lad i know but he started up near the front as a BC member, he rode with his club and did it in 2.21, i think next year i might join so i can start up near the front ans stick with the fast groups. Speaking of fast, there was some very fast riders there, as i was coming to the end of my 3rd lap the leaders lapped me aout .5 mile from the finish line, they were fast! Some nice bikes knocking about and yes a good few Pinarello's. I did get a few comments on my bike, i got talking to two guys on the the last lap, i heard them say something about me and they both looked over at me, a mile or so down the road we got talking and they said it was a nice looking bike, i smiled then started to tell them about my mechanical. Did see a few Red T3's knocking about but the amount of bikes it was hard to spot.

Just seen this on twitter, didn't actually see any crashes but saw the aftermath of a few. The wife witnessed one and the guy was going mad!
