I expect that Arnie will be able to answer this, but maybe someone else as well.
Some of you may have seen in another thread that my 10 year old daughter is desperate for a road bike. A few months ago we popped into Decathlon to look at road bikes, the Triban Junior was OK, but would last about a year, max. The 45cm was little too big, particularly for reach. I have been looking at used Islabikes and Moda Major, which are going for over £300 in good condition (one 6 year old Islabike went for £250!).
Anyway, I have seen a used 45cm Triban 3 and thought that I should think about the size again. Does anyone have an idea of the minimium size for this bike, she is about 147cm tall at the moment.
My main concerns are reach and being able to reach the breaks/gears, are these adjustable?
Thanks in advance.

breaks are adjustable using the little rubber bts you get with the bike but only by a cm at most using that method...just brings them closer to the bike.
What height is your daughter?

Another question Dan, what are these rubber bits? The T3 I have been offered is a little used 45cm for £200 with upgraded saddle, which I think is good value. I don't suppose that these rubber bits will be with it (I can't remember any with my 54cm T3)? Thanks.

Hi, dan is right, you do get these rubber brake spacers that increase it by 6-10 degrees. they normally come inside where the disc is. (if you ent threw it away). If you cant get them, just drop into your local mecca and they should have a few spares from what people didn't want.

Yeah what the other Dan said... they come with your Triban in with the CD? i didnt have a clue what they were and had to ask! if you cant get any in store (im sure you will be able to) then let me know i have mine laying about somewhere! Sounds like great value for the bike to me!

Great thanks guys. I was looking at spending more than this on the Moda or Isla, when I look at specs, the T3 will be better value and I already know a lot about it (well...from this forum anyway). Do the 650c wheels suffer from the same hub grease problem?
Do you think that the size will be fine as well?
Two RED T3's in the family...here we come!

www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=15774I'm trying to find the other 1. And I'll put it this way, if she upgraded to a 51 cm bike, she'd still be able to keep that wheel (and the other 1, if found) and out them on the new bike, unless you wanted to sell the bike with them on ofc...

Thanks for this, I doubt she will race. At first she will come out with me perhaps once a week, maybe on a 20 miler and then a family sportive or two. She already does athletics, so I will see if the cycling bug really gets her before suggesting racing. The T3 45cm looks like the way to go, Dan offered the rubber brake bits if I can get any, so this will help. I had an email from the lady selling the T3 and the height is about 2cm higher than my duaghters saddle is at the moment (but I read somewhere that a person cut 40mm of the seatpost to get it right down for a child smaller than mine). My last concern is the reach for the handlebars. I have read on this forum that you can reverse the handle bar stem to make it closer, is that right? Thanks again.

Okay no worries, weell at least you know you've got them there if in need and hopefully she gets into it well Glad to hear about the brake bits and the handlbars, they do RAISE the bars to give a slight decrease in length but thats only because your raising them, raisning the person up more. Length is no different. just psychology really. but to be honest, for how small the stem is on those things, she shouldnt have a problem.

There are 2 sizes 4deg and 8deg - the size refers to how many degrees the lever rotates towards the bar. Even with fairly big hands - I prefer running with the 8deg fitted.
