Hi I am trying to decied what bike to buy. I am going to use the bike to commute 30 miles everyday from hinckley to coventry and back. I will be riding on fairly good condition b roads and the terrible walsgrave road that goes from the outside of cov to the centre. Im not bothered about any extra percs I just want whatever bike will allow me to ride to work at around 18mph. What do we think?

Not to sure about the new White T3, all i know is it isn't as good as the Red. As for riding at 18mph, it's more about the fitness rather than the bike. If you're new to riding then 18mph is quite pace over 30 miles.

I thought the red would be suitable im just a bit worried about the white being a painful ride. The shifters dont bother me so much as I have read some positive things about them but I do wonder if the lack of carbon fork would mean I need the t5. Its all money lol

You haven't said what your budget is. We could say go for the T5 but without the budget can't say what will be the best buy for you.

Well I have 300 on the cycle scheme but im considerinf coughing up the extra 130 for the t5 which I can begrudgingly afford if its really worth the upgrade. I just have to justify it to rhe wife lol

The Red T3 does have a carbon folk so if you can get one of those rather than the new white T3. Not sure but from reading on here the Red's seem to be in short supply.
I have a the White T5, bought this Sept last year. Since then i have made upgrades to the bike, i ride up to 200 miles a week but don't use it to commute. If i was just using it for a commute i wouldn't have spent that much on a bike. (My commute is only 1.5 miles each way and i just use my MTB)

The original T5 is white which is better than the new black T5a. The Red T3 has the carbon fork where as the new one does not. I would try to get the red one if you can find one before they are completely gone.

I got my T3 in March and my average speed over 30 mile rides is now up to about 16.5 mph, about 1.5 mph quicker than when I first got the bike. The T3 is more than capable of achieving the 18mph you are after Hazza, and I don't know what your fitness levels are like. However if you haven't done much cycling before, you will need to get a few miles in your legs first. I would recommend getting set up with clipless pedals,as they will really improve your pedaling efficiency. Well done on getting the Red T3 anyway mate. It is a smashing bike for the money. Mine has certainly given me a new lease of life since I got it.

you cant go wrong with the RED T3 its a great bike for Β£299. I had mine now for 9 months and have only adjusted the gear shifting 3 times, replaced the wheels, tyres, chain and cassette that's all, keep it cleaned and lubed and just get out there and ride! great low maintenance road bike

Is the T5 saddle better than the T3's? Also, does anyone know of one or two budget saddles that are an improvement on the T3 saddle?

The 5 is better for my preference but others like the standard t3 one - I've changed mine for a flatter Arte Selle, quite race like, gets a little tough after a few hours. Very much down to the individual. Big topic, Google 'saddle fit' as can get quite technical.

Thanks. I forgot to ask, does the T5 have the same wheels as the T3?

Fredscuttle, I put a charge spoon on my T3, Β£18 new on eBay. Much better that stock saddle, but not sofa comfort.
