The best thing about the Triban is its unbeatable value and fantastic O.E kit that it comes with, I mean Shimano Mechs, Carbon Forks and a descent chainset and quite a comfy perch.
I ve owned all sort and I ve got a bit of a problem when it comes to Up Grading and its not the one Eddy Merckx suggested.
However I would say in my humble opinion there are a couple of "up grades" which are necessary to avoid future grief.
The bolts in the stem and Seat post clamp appear to be made out of cheese and really do need replacing with a good stainless bolt as soon as poss.
I ve replaced mine for the grand total of about £3.00.
I would also say that once winters passed and done its worse that changing the casette to an HG50 would be a good idea because it seems to be made from similar low grade alloy as the bolts.
I ve got a lighter wheelset lined up, but to be honest (I ve had no hub issues) I m enjoying how bombproof my Forme 32's are and the extra training load I get from them.

Thanks magic, will bear that in mind - is this the cassette? www.wiggle.co.uk/shimano-deore-hg50-9-speed-cassette/Also, please could you offer a link to the bolts you mentioned? It's miles to the shops from here (half way between Bristol and Glos and rarely visit towns any more, so internet shopping is the way for me ... difficult to buy the right fiddly bits when you can't get up close. Will be interested to see how the wheel issue pans out as well.

I do have the tools to change the cassettes and like shuttlecock I want to keep complete wheels with cassette on it for spares or winter wheels, think I might go for the sram cassette after reading reviews on wiggle

Just type M5 stainless bolts in Ebay and pick the right length/ Pitch for the component your replacing them for, I ve also picked up a Sram pg850 casette off Bike radar Forum for £10 and must say its a lot better quality and lighter than the HG 50 shimano. The tyres Vittora Rubinos (£5.99 A pop) are due to arrive from planet x tommorrow so I Will get them on with the R500s for Sundays club run, Pics and impressions to follow.

The Vittora tyres are good, you won't be disappointed, although i didn't like them in the rain. Let me know how you find them.
I was running at 110psi.

Shuttlecock, I tend to drop pressures in the winter, 90psi max, I went for the 23mm because I dont want any clearance issues with the gaurds. I m out on Sunday and the weather is meant to be fairly sketchy so this will be a good test of how they handle.
I ve ran Schwalbe ultremos at 110/120 on my other bikes, but I m 90 Kg and I m going to go for a bit more comfort with the Triban.

The SRAM PG850 Casette ive got is 8 speed. Any casette which is Sram/Shimano compatible will fit the freehub body, obviously though the original shimano 2300 right hand sti/shifter is only able to shift 8 cogs.
I ve fitted a 10 speed Ultegra 6500 series casette on my free hub and this required a spacer which all Shimano 10 speed casettes above 105 spec do on 8,9,10 speed freehubs, you can get dedicated 10 speed ones.
The free hub on the B Twin will accept any Sram/Shimano (PG/HG/OG 8,9 or 10 speed casette) but 10 speed shimano above 105 needs a spacer.
I ran the frame at one time with a 10 speed triple Ultegra set up, but took this off (except chainset to run on another bike)
I would personally recommend the SRAM PG850 8 Speed casette as a direct replacement to the Sunrace that is fitted as original.
I would also recommend not fitting Vittoria Rubino slicks until the weather drys up, this morning was a bit too interesting.

Heres the one I fitted, Dont know if its subconscious but it shifts quicker IMO , When I can find my chain tool I m going to fit the corresponding chain. I m a bit of a tart, but IMO this is the one "up grade" I would recommend, the SRAM is about half the weight of the Sunrace, more durable and slicker. Let the winter Eat your original casette and then replace with this, Mine was £11.99 from bike radar classifieds, but I have seen them at £44.99 in Halfords, so go for Ebay or Bike radar classified.
