Fed up of the standard pedals that are on my T3, I decided to upgrade to something a little better.
Budget is not unlimited and I didn't want to spend a lot in case I didn't get on with clipless pedals.
I ordered the pedals from Amazon (as usual) as they were cheap on there and I was ordering other stuff anyway. They were Β£22 free delivery. I think Wiggle and Chain Reaction are the same price.
Anyway, they were obviously simple to fit and offer adjustment of clip in/out tension via a little hex screw. I adjusted to the weakest setting as I'm new to cleats.
they look like this...
I practiced clipping in and out for a while in the house till I got the hang of it. Not fallen off yet!
They definitely feel much more secure than standard pedals when clipped in and I was surprised by how much easier it seemed to pedal and get the power down. You can definitely feel the difference.
One thing that would help a little is if the rear of the pedal was a little heavier so th positioned itself a little better so its always ready to clip into. I shall try oiling the spindle more to see if I can make it spin easier, hopefully they'll loosen up with use.
The shoes I chose were again a budget choice. I had tried some different shoes on in my LBS recently and the R064 were a comfortable and affordable choice. Two velcro straps keep them done up and once tight, they feel nice and secure. My feet are quite wide due to numerous broken toes over the years, but the shoes didnt pinch or feel tight. I ordered half a size bigger than my normal shoes. They are light with a nice stiff sole. The heel section is nice and snug which is good apparently!
I ordered from Tweeks cycles as they had the size I needed in stock and they were a good price at Β£44 delivered. They are a subsidiary of the Demon Tweeks car tuning company so I felt pretty comfortable using them.
One niggle with the tweeks website, is the ordering process feels a little haphazzard. I wasnt sure that the order had gone through at first and had to wait half an hour for a confirmation email. Once this was received I felt happier. Delivery was fast which is good as i have no patience.
Fitting the cleats (supplied with the pedals) was a piece of cake, three hex screws, done and dusted,
In use, they are comfortable and definitely help with pedaling. The cleats position right under the ball of your foot so pedaling is much better than with ordinary shoes and the standard toe clips.
I can and have recommended these shoes to anyone wanting a first pair of clipless shoes. assuming they last, I will rate them highly!
