Looks good. I'm still waiting for a small RC520 to hit my local store for a trial. Short legs and long body in my case so that seems to be the one Iβd need. My T3a is a 54 and it feels a little overstretched on the reach so hopefully the different geometry will fix that. As soon as the small arrives my C2W voucher can be used.
Thinking about the flapping loose comment, the front brake cable certainly isnβt loose so probably a poor choice of words. Iβd rather the cable just tracked down closer to the fork but Iβll ignore it for the value!

Gave mine a quick spin to work this morning, only to discover the front derailleur hadn't been set up properly. All fixed now thankfully. Feels pretty nice to ride I must say, even with stock tyres which looked a bit crap initially but I think I might keep them on for a bit. Even the saddle is fine??

Agreed, the tyres grip and roll well, my only criticism is the weight as they're a rigid bead and the saddle is surprisingly good. Re your earlier comment about the seat post I think they put a shorter one on the xs otherwise it hits the bottle cage boss before going low enough.

I have been saving up with an eye on getting a 520... but am no longer in the market for a new triban, as ive been very lucky to have been gifted a Pinnacle Arkose 2It's been converted with a treble on the front, has a rack and mudguards - just need to take it to LBS to get a new headset fitted and fit some good road tyres. Have ridden it a few times and is a lovely bike - thought i would have trouble with the bar end shifters, but actually really like them. Will be perfect for my touring and audax needs. Sad to not be out on a triban... but very happy that my savings can now be put to something else - like maybe a holiday =D.

chas any idea if we can fit 650b wheels on the RC 520? No official answer, but really the question is how wide a tyre will fit as the point is to fit a larger tyre than is possible with 700. I'll see what I can find out.

I'll see what I can find out. To maintain the rolling diameter of a 700x28mm you'd need a 47mm tyre, looking at the forks and stays this seems possible as the widest part will be slightly nearer the centre than with a 700. Unfortunately as the actual size of tyres can vary so much from the stated size it's impossible to guarantee x or y will fit without actually trying them, ideally I'd suggest borrowing some wheels if you know anyone using them. I've tried my mtb front wheel which is 26x2.0, 52/559 and it just goes in but is a bit close to actually use so I'd suggest a 42 to 47mm 650b should be fine.

I went over an enormous pothole which was hidden by a small flood on Sunday morning. Wheel went out of true and also the rim is slightly damaged. I'd post a photo but it's barely visible, but you can feel the dent / bumps with your hand. Looks like my RC 520 will be getting a wheel upgrade sooner than I'd imagined.

UPDATE: took the wheel to two mechanics who said it was fine and there's nowt to worry about. HOWEVER: What I forgot to mention last week was that the tyre I had on the stock wheels, 4 Seasons, were incredibly hard to get on and off. Took five people and broke three tyre levers in the process. A week later, I get a puncture at the rear this time. While it was a bit quicker to get on and off this time it was still insanely hard and there's no way I could sort it out my myself if I was riding alone. I tried to fit some other tyres I had on the Hunts on my Ultra AF - these wheels are also tubeless ready but the tyres, Lifeline Prime Race Roads are very easy to take on and off. Too easy, perhaps. But I couldn't fit them onto the stock Triban RC wheels. The last thing to try, I guess, is different rim tape. But barring that I'm potentially looking at getting a new set of wheels for no reason other than I can't get tyres on and off? Urgh. Not impressed.

I've not really used the stock wheels much as I'd already got a Prime Race Disc wheelset I bought for my Scott last year, I wasn't impressed with the rim tape though. The thin edges were folded up inside the tyre in places and the thick ribbed centre would certainly make tyre changes harder. I had a bit of a play trying to fit a Btwin resist 9 tyre (not tubeless ready) tubeless and wasn't successful but with tubeless tape the tyre went on without too much trouble. If you're still planning long Audax rides and PBP next year I'd recommend getting a handbuilt set with a dynamo hub. I've been very happy with the Prime wheels but it's not worth buying a pair if you then get a dynamo front. (My dynamo front wheel is only 5g heavier than the Triban wheel so with a pair you'll save weight overall)

I was always going to get new wheels for this bike, but I wanted to do it in my own time rather than feeling forced into it! Tubeless tape has been recommended to me by a few other people as well, so if the cloth Velox stuff I've ordered doesn't work I have one last thing before dumping them.

I had no luck with different rim tape - was insanely difficult still, and there was no way I could get the tyre off and back on myself. So I got new wheels (Hunt x Mason 4 Season), and now the Conti 4 Seasons can be removed and refit really quite easily. I got a puncture on my ride on Sunday and sorted it out within ten minutes. The stock wheels are sat in the corner of my spare room looking pretty sad. I should add: I was always going to replace the wheels on the RC 520, but I was slightly irked that I had to do it so soon. It's still a cracking bike, I can't really imagine needing anything more (apart from full hydro brakes and thru axles obvs).
