utriban I put some pictures on strava, there are better ones on here www.cyclist.co.uk/reviews/5340/decathlon-btwin-triban-rc500-and-rc520-review KiwiBeard the Merida looks to be more gravel orientated, has through axles and full carbon fork but about twice the price over here from my quick search. So on thursday the new bikes were presented to the press, yesterday to representatives from the stores. The design team came over from France to give us a presentation and answer questions, we got a chance to examine them and then go out for a test ride. B'twin as a brand is no more, with a reorganisation across the company smaller teams have been set up to focus more effectively on specific areas. The Triban team are developing a range of bikes with the UK market in mind which will then be sold worldwide with the emphasis on comfort enjoyment and practicality over pure speed. The sports range (they won't tell us the new name yet) will be developed in Belgium. I think the new bikes are ideally suited to our unpredictable weather and rubbish roads, capable of touring, winter training, commuting (the designer was a bit offended when I suggested that, saying it wasn't a commuter!) and even some off road but it is conceived as a road bike not a gravel bike. We took our own pedals for the road test which meant we got a better feel for them but didn't get chance to swap and try both so I only rode the 520. Overall I was really impressed with the comfort, handling and braking. It was my first time riding in London and with a group who didn't know the area or each other in very strong winds I felt really at home and confident on the bike. Even the saddle was right and I would have been happy to ride a 200k audax without changing anything. I've had a Scott speedster cx for about a year now which has Sora cable disc brakes, I love the consistency in the wet but they lack the bite of ultegra rim brakes in the dry. The TRP Hy/Rd calipers on the Triban worked much better than I'd expected and I now think are worth the extra weight and complication. The claimed weights are 10.2kg for the 520 and 10.4kg for the 500, this was only noticeable on the steeper climbs and is very reasonable for disc braked bikes at this price (for comparison road.cc/content/review/248176-cannondale-synapse-disc-sora). The wheels are own brand, sealed cartridge bearing 'tubeless ready' with different rims on each model weighing 2.2kg for the 500 and 2.0kg for the 520. again this is reasonable for disc wheels with Aksium discs at 2045g They said they'd spent a lot of time developing the Resist+ 28mm tyres and while they gripped well enough there were 2 punctures on our ride and at 410g with a wire bead I think the 520 in particular deserves better. It's maybe unfair to compare them to the 28mm conti gp4000s2's I've got on my Scott but I think I'll add a pair of something a bit nicer to my cyclescheme voucher

Not a great advertisement for Resist+ tyres, having 2 punctures. What's the max tyre size for the new tribans? PS Not wanting to derail the thread, but Merida's are way overpriced in the UK. Merida Silex 400 is AUD1500, but also GBP1500 - crazy! I recall seeing similar pricing in previous years. Anyway, probably 2+ years before I'd be 'allowed' to buy another bike

KiwiBeard max tyre size quoted as 36mm. Thinking about the styling, a major advance is the lack of acronyms and labels compared to the af/gf 'disc brake' etc. There will be clothing and shoes to complement them in the new year.

I would have been happy to ride a 200k audax without changing anything. This is exactly what I wanted to hear.

Given that they have now seperated the range into the Triban and the yet to be named performance range, I wonder when we will seethe first performance bikes.

If the prices shown on the Cyclist first ride review are correct, the RC520 at Β£729 is definitely on my cyclescheme voucher.

That would be nice. I might not own 2 Canyon bicycles if Decathlon had an aero road bike and a time trial bike to offer.

That 105 spec bike could definitely be my next road bike if ever replace my faithful red T3

Karen is considering one of these as a winter training bike. Clip on mudguards on a Canyon Ultimate don't really cut it.

is there a 1x with full hydraulic brakes coming out? Thinking gravel There is a version of the Triban RC (road cycling) frame with SRAM 1x hydraulic due out next year (plenty of room for 35mm tyres) but they are considering a modified wider clearance frame proper gravel bike in the future.
