Looking for recommendations for lock for use when on tow bar mounted bike rack.
I dont leave the bike outside anywhere normally but got a holiday coming up and intending to take bikes on back of car so want security for pits stops on journey.
Bike rack is a 3 bike Thule tow bar mounted one that locks to tow bar and the individual clamps for each bike are lockable too so already some security but think I should top it up with a lock for a bit of extra peace of mind if we stop en route
Looking at the range of Gold std sold secure locks and so much choice so looking for any real world experience please either D type lock or possibly covered chain type

Looking for recommendations for lock for use when on tow bar mounted bike rack. I dont leave the bike outside anywhere normally but got a holiday coming up and intending to take bikes on back of car so want security for pits stops on journey. Bike rack is a 3 bike Thule tow bar mounted one that locks to tow bar and the individual clamps for each bike are lockable too so already some security but think I should top it up with a lock for a bit of extra peace of mind if we stop en route Looking at the range of Gold std sold secure locks and so much choice so looking for any real world experience please either D type lock or possibly covered chain type The advice generally is that any lock is beatable by the determined thief, but a combination of luck types will deter most, as they need to have multiple tools with them. So in your case, where weight isn't an issue, you might consider a long chain to go round a few of the bikes as well as individual d-locks locking each bike to the rack. However depending on the area you're visiting and the value of the bikes this might be overkill, e.g. staying at campsites in the Highlands of Scotland you're not likely to encounter any tooled-up bike thieves. When I'm leaving my bike around town I use a large OnGuard Pitbull d-lock as well as a cable lock on the front wheel. Scott.

Thanks Scott M was thinking of a mixture and had seen the Pitbull so may go with a couple of them (one for each bike) along with a couple of the 3m X 15mm thick cables bandit3 linked to as they seem great value. Thanks chas that was one of the fears that prompted the question
