Morning all - just joined the forum yesterday, and picked up a neglected Triban 300 (the later? White/Grey one). Seems to have had very little use, just neglected, so time to whip out the bucket & sponge and see what I've got. If I find any issues, I'll post up, but if anyone has any advice to look for on bikes that have been stood for a while, advice would be appreciated! just planning on cleaning & re-greasing the wheels, headset etc and cleaning/lubing the drivetrain but all seems OK at first glance (apart from a punctured rear, which may be the reason it was left standing!). Normally a regular mountain biker, so looking at dipping my toes into the road scene to see how I get on, and get some miles under my belt. Again, any advice for things to look out for, or sensible (cheap!) upgrades that are worth doing from the outset on these bikes would be great.

Welcome on board!
What you propose sounds a good start.
As for upgrading, well, where does one start! There are people on here with similar bikes which have become very much like Trigger's broom - Original frame but virtually everything else changed!

Hello and welcome. I think a lot of us here can identify with what Paulinblack shared about Trigger's broom. I'll also agree your off to a good start by checking out what you've got and how the bits are working before diving into add/replace. Enjoy the journey and though it's ok to be strange...don't be a stranger
