Hello! Last autumn I bought my first road bike - Triban 540. I have been MTB rider for many years, but eventually started to like long road trips. So I bought the 540 and now the other bike is covered in dust and forgotten I am planning different long trips (not sure what people here understand as long...for me at this point it is several days trips). Therefore I will need a rear rack and panniers and will carry a tent and camping gear for the nights. But here is the question - will the Aksium wheels handle the load? My weight is almost 70 kilos if this makes a difference.

Welcome. I have no experience of this, but can tell you that my Aksium wheels coped with 127+ kilos when I was at my heaviest.

Welcome, I agree with Paul, I think it should be OK.

From the Magic web pages, "For a longer longevity of the wheel, Mavic recommends that the total weight supported by the wheels don't exceed 120kg, bike included". So touring shouldn't be a problem. Might be worth considering some wider tyres than the stock 25mm offering. Look forward to seeing some ride reports.

Thanks for the replies. I was also thinking about wider tires. I read that the bike can handle up to 32. However, I already have mudguards (SKS Urban 42) and I am not sure if even 28 will fit. Another question is what tires to pick. In local shops from 700x28 I can choose between Vittoria Randonneur, Schwalbe Marathon, Maxis Detonator or Specialized Espoir Sport. I will appreciate opinions on any of these.

They also come up more like 25mm tyres rather than 28mm so have more clearance. Both have effective reflective strips round the tyre walls.

Maybe not as puncture proof as the Marathons but I could never get those off and on the wheel easily. You'd need to ask someone else about grip in tight turns on a descent as I'm slooooow on descents!
