So, with the weather being passable this morning, I thought I'd take my three week old 520 for a couple of laps of the Guild Wheel. If you've never heard of it, it's a 21 mile ring road around and through Preston, with a mix of metalled paths, gravel track, trail and stone/mud track. This would be the first time I'd ever cycled it on anything other than a hybrid with 35mm well-treaded tyres. On average the p******* fairy would visit once every 3 laps or so. I am hugely impressed by how the 520 handled the Wheel. I didn't push it too hard, but averaged 16mph over the 42 miles and only lost the back end once in a deep patch of mud. I didn't pick up a p*******, and the ride was far better than I had expected (given I'm 18st I was amazed, frankly). The stock 25mm slicks were surprisingly grippy over the varied (though mostly wet from overnight rain) ground. Arrived home sporting a huge grin, albeit looking like I'd been standing behind a farmyard shitspreader. One hot shower for me, one for the bike... (don't tell the wife)
