Bought an XL 520 from Decathlon in Bolton on Saturday - first drop-barred bike in 20 years, having started cycling again in June on a hefty 2nd hand H*lfords hybrid. Now 4st lighter, thought I'd treat myself and Β£350 was too bargaintastic to pass up.
Yesterday was frustratingly wet, and as much as I itched to go out I didn't think it would be the best idea to start getting used to an unfamiliar bike in the pissing wet with slippy roads.
So, this morning... usual commute through the centre of the city. 4 miles each way. Some hills, some fast bits, some twisty.
Holy hell. Felt like lt halved the inclines, pointing it in the right direction was effortless and the gear changes were crisp and responsive. Riding position needs a little tweaking and I've yet to extract the saddle from up me chuff but actually surprisingly comfortable. Going to 25mm from 35mm is a little jarring but honestly not as much as I expected; the carbon forks are pretty effective.
So, a huge grin on day one and I'll let you know how it feels after a week!

Great stuff! Glad the bike suits you. I found changing saddle helped comfort a lot (I use a Charge Spoon). Also, I found with my bike (500SE) that the hub bearings didn't have a lot of grease in them so you may want to keep an eye on them if you're doing lots of riding in the wet. Happy riding!

Good to hear thing are heading in the right direction, pretty sure the two of you will get on well together and keep smiling it burns up more calories than a frown!
