I don't buy extra reflective or high viz tbh. my BLACK aerofit 700 Jacket is black... but it shows up clear as day in lights at night. You aren't unsafe from people who can't see you, there are very few of those... it's the people that aren't looking that's the issue, and no amount of high viz/reflective will make any difference to them. +1 been waiting for so long for somebody to state it. I've been big on motorcycle safety research while riding in NA. Turns out there are very few proper researches that show any kind of difference in one's chances of being involved in accidents with relation to Hi-Viz. Actually the only color that makes any difference is white, helmet and bike. Can guess why? Sure enough, everybody associates it with a cop on the bike, therefore the threat. Looks like that people generally look out for what is a threat to them, not what's on the road.

Likewise reflective items are only useful when the headlights hit you, the majority of my near misses have been cars coming from near side junctions, who are usually going too fast, have a quick look and pull out. I've recently started using 2 front lights, one steady, one pulsing and have also added two Lyzene femto lights to the forks pointing sideways, which seems to work well, already had a couple of drivers tell me it was easy to spot me. Anyone seen these lights before: www.cyclechic.co.uk/shop/accessories/hikari-bikehalo-wheel-lights-front-rear ?

An article on being seen. The Science of Being Seen: A Guide to Safer Riding flip.it/sZY0KnThat's interesting. I just bought myself 2 pairs of 'black' Velotoze. Wonder if I can exchange them for some 'red' instead?

Technically, humans are slightly bio-luminescent anyhow... just need to enhance that somehow.

Did you think about these at all ? You don't need as many as on that wheel. I have some on my mtb and they are very effective.

I've got some of those on my other bike thanks, Paul. They were an Aldi purchase and agree they work well. The only problem is occasional slippage. I had a recent spoke snappage with one fitted and I did wonder if the reflective piping may have played a part with moisture retention between the spoke and the piping. They have been on for a few years. If the rim strips stay put then they would be my preferred option of the two. They look better than the spoke reflectors... imho.
