Over the years I have been happily making do with various bits of kit including offerings from the likes of Aldi and AliExpress. They have been very good value for money. Last year I bought a Gabba short sleeve jersey along with arm and leg warmers. All I can say is... WOW..!! The Castelli Gabba Jersey has to be up there as one of the best items of cycle clothing that has been produced. Comfortable, breathable, warm and a great fit when you find the size that is right for you. It is no wonder the pro's threw on these jerseys when the going got tough. I am not a brand snob and they ain't exactly cheap but it has to go down as one of the best value items I have bought. Love it to bits. The short sleeves and arm warmers offers a lot of flexibility as regards to the climate. I remember william39 (cheers mate) pointing me in this direction at the time when I was looking to buy the long sleeve version. What floats your boat on the clothing front? I believe the Captain America jerseys on AliExpress are pretty good too.

Thanks Dave for kicking of this thread. For me it's a pair of Santini long Bibs purchased approximately 10 years or so ago in Barcelona. Back then if memory serves they cost about £85! I've worn them almost exclusively most winters since, been through countless wash cycles survived a couple of tumbles with a few stitches fixing a small rip at knee. The colour still strong and still feel as good as new, if I had to single out one piece of kit no hesitation 10 out of 10.

Expensive but the Gabba is a great bit of kit. I've had the long sleeve for about 12 months now and for Xmas got a short sleeve version and long with some arm warmers and vest.

My best is the Pearl Izumi Elite In-R-Cool® Bib Shorts. By far my most comfortable shorts, I've worn these on my longest of rides (including a 10.5 hour etape du tour) and never had a sore behind. They are becoming increasingly difficult to find, so a few months ago I bought a couple of pairs as no other shorts I've tried, including other Pearl Izumi shorts, have worked so well for me.

Got to be my Shimano R088 shoes. Lasted 3 years and 25,000 miles already. I've even bought a replacement pair for £35 when spotted on offer as they are so comfortable for me.

Tricky, Not sure there's a single item I'd pick out really. My B'twin 700 bib tights (I have 2 pairs) are amazing, coping fine from ~+12--5Cand I've ridden 1000s of miles in them, and 200km rides a few times... they seem to cope with everything and wash nicely - but others don't liek them, and I suspect the fit is quite personal as they aren't a stretchy/forgiving as much kit thanks to the water/windproof membrane.

Hmmmm, I'm by no means a seasoned cyclist but as the 'great bit of kit' v 'paying for the name' dilemma is the same with running gear (and many other of my hobbies) I have bought my cycling gear well versed in similar debates. Likewise I have Aldi tops at around £6 a pop, a BTwin one at £4.99 etc.... I have 2 favourites so far. My BTwin 500 tights at £24.99 (great value I think) and yes another satisfied customer for Castelli Gabba inspired clothing only mine is the Perfecto convertible (the new Gabba). Got it for christmas worn once (must update my thread about it) it just did what it was supposed to, feels good, kept the wind chill out and so many reports are extremely positive (not seen a bad one which is very un-internet like) that I believe in the properties it has to deal with the coming months without too much layering required. Nothing wrong with paying for quality or grabbing a bargain.

I like my specialised big sport mtb shoes, but my favourite piece of kit has to be my Limar ultralight helmet which is so comfortable to wear

Another thumbs up from me for the Decathlon 700 membrane bib tights as recommended by r0b1et but also super pleased with the Jacket too www.decathlon.co.uk/720-hi-vis-warm-cycling-jacket-yellow-id_8369414.htmlDid have the orange version before this that I purchased last winter but noticed some of the reflective beads were missing when I got it out the cupboard this winter. Swapped for the new yellow version without question by Decathlon and manged to go down a size at same time. Out in 2 degrees Saturday morning with just a base layer under this jacket and fine for a 2 hour ride. Very pleased with it
