Cutting a long story short, I was in my 30's before I realised that not only had I not done enough exercise since I got my car at the age of 17 but I'd virtually become a couch potato to the extreme. So I joined a gym (still a member to this very day), went regularly, took up jogging (now more race orientated running) and just lately cycling. Sure enough, work, injury, bugs and family can get in the way from time to time but I am doing so much more than ever. So it comes as a surprise t me that when I look at the totals for 2016 to date on My 'Garmin connect' (not been a member of stava for very long) they are still pitiful. OK it hasn't been possible to record all my exercises this year and I have had a few forced breaks but i'm shocked none the less. 212 activities recorded 126 Hours 1652 kms (there are some indoor treadmill & spin bike exercises so I'm not too bothered about this one) Now bare in mind that 182.5 hours per year is half hour a day Truth of the matter is probably about 150/160 hours....still rubbish.

2016: 320 hrs so far (average just under 2.5 hrs per ride) 2015: 363 hrs, 41 mins (average just under 2 hrs per ride) 2014: 363 hrs, 51 mins (weird) (average just under 2 hrs per ride) So 2014 and 2015 were pretty much exactly the same. This year has been less rides but made up for by longer rides (in terms of time). In 2014 & 2015 I pretty much went out for a 2 hour ride every other night. This year a bit more random with sometimes as much as 4 or 5 days without a ride (mainly due to family reasons). Apart from cycling, nothing. But, its difficult to call some of it 'exercising'.

2016 so far, 435 Activities, 432h 53m, 60 minutes average per activity... which gets let down by my 10-12 minute commute! There's about 8 hours of running in there, which I do with my little daughter (5), so it's not exactly intense, but certainly counts as exercise as gets the HR up.
I do various other stuff in the gym that won't be counting, I like taking the kids on longish walks (~4-5miles) and do strength work in the gym too.

306 hours for me in 2016 so far, 8,046 kilometres. Averaging almost exactly an hour a day so not too bad and up from last years 231 hours.

1309 hours so far this year averaging just short of 4 hours a day. 21,916 km's.
If you grow to love cycling rather than just regard it as a way of exercising your stats will look after themselves, @bornagain . Good luck with it. Cycling is probably the best way to lose weight and get in shape as you get older and if you get a taste for it then you are onto a winner.

Not retired by any chance are you Dave? Seriously though, I took up cycling (and always loved it as a kid) to do things when I have running injuries. That was the latter end of the summer followed by 2 weeks away so I guess next year things will improve and god willing when retirement comes (still 7 years away at best) I'll be out when the the other buggers are working.
