Hi all, does anyone out there own a Btwin 720 AF, size extra large? I'm thinking of buying one but sometimes find the head tube size on larger bikes a bit ugly. Depends how they're integrated into the frame really. I was just wondering if there was an owner of such a bike on here if they wouldn't mind posting up a picture? Thank all.

You want to be buying a bike that actually fits you rather than worrying how it looks. It's a bike - you ride it.

Hi, I've been riding road bikes since I was a boy in the early 90s, so I'm well aware of the importance of a good fit. Thanks for your concern. As I'm 6'5" though my options in that regard are quite limited. I called into a Decathlon store by chance, saw this bike in L and liked it. But it's too small. I looked online and the XL fits my dimensions quite nicely. Before I order one in to the store, make the long trip there, only to find I don't like the look of it I just thought someone on this site might have an identical bike and be happy to show it off. No harm done.
If the bike isn't to my taste there is another brand whose bike I know looks nice in XL, but it is a few hundred more and a slightly different spec - better wheels, worse groupset. I like to weigh up all of the information before spending a small fortune on something which I plan to use for a decade or more. You may not care for aesthetics, that's your choice, but I think bikes can be beautiful things, and I'd prefer to ride one I felt that way about.

Hello and welcome Michael. Hearing you loud and clear my friend and I doubt you are alone when it comes to appreciating the looks of a bicycle. Most of us here have dearly cherished friends of the two wheel variety. Some use simply as work horses but I think deep down they are special in many different ways to many people. I've checked on line doesn't seem to be any XL but that sometimes can be taken with a pinch of salt, hope you find what your looking for and continue to enjoy the journey.

Thanks Robert, the lad in the shop seemed to think they could order one although I too had my doubts!

This might help: The head tube is rather bigger at 200mm rather than 175mm, a slightly disproportionate increase compared to others, but that will be to handle the height of you and others your size.

There are a couple of customer photos on the B'twin website which look like they might be XL's For comparison here's an L from a private sale the head tube looks a bit shorter to me

Brilliant, thanks r0b1et and especially chas - that's great detective work and really, really helpful. Decent chance you might have chosen my next bike.

Unfortunately if there's only one left in the country it's probably not available for various reasons (stock error, already reserved, in the workshop waiting for parts etc etc) worth a ring to check though. I had a quick look at warehouse stock today and they're not due in until Feb next year, sorry.

Thanks chas, not the end of the world as it allows me to stockpile a little cash and maybe even upgrade those wheels. I was 50/50 on whether to buy now but I wouldn't want to ride a new bike through the winter months anyway, so makes sense to hang on. Btwin might even come out with a new model then? Not that there's anything wrong with this one from what I can see.

If it ain't broke don't fix it as they say, the 720 is staying the same next year. The 700 gets a slight upgrade with a 105 chainset replacing the 5 arm one on this year's model and there will be a new budget carbon model to tempt you with a Tiagra groupset - the 560cf.
