I'm pretty much resolved to get me a Triban 520 as my first roadbike. I took the bike for a spin around Decathlon and found it comfortable and enjoyable ride. When taking it for a spin I was slightly perturbed by the braking power or lack thereof and noticed that a lot of riders and reviewers made similar comments and have recommended swapping the pads for cartridge style ones.
I've noticed swisstop green are on special offer at present (18 quid a set including the cartridges) but would pay that if it made a big difference to stopping power. Do the swisstop justify their price? I'm also open to other, more cost effective alternatives?!

I've used Shimano Dura-Ace/Ultegra/105 R55C3 for a while now, work well in all conditions. Forgotten price but I didn't have to rob a bank

Before you spend any more money are you confident the ones on the bike in the shop were adjusted properly? It's made quite a difference on my 540 once I tensioned the cable so that there wasn't excess lever travel before the pads bit on the rim.

Aligning the pads so that they contact the rim correctly can make a big difference as well, the brakes should be adjusted during the safety check before you take the bike away.

I can't speak for the current Sora brakes but I did upgrade the original unbranded calipers on my T3 to Tiagras back in September 2013. There was a significant improvement. The 105 calipers on No 1 bike are a lot better again. You get what you pay for.

I have the current Sora brakes on a triban 500 2015 model with Sora groupset, the brakes were useless, I replaced the lads with Dura ace which improved the situation but not fantastically. My new bike has 105 and the difference is amazing. There is a new Sora just announced with double pivot calipers and a 20% increase in braking performance. It looks like Sora will be better next year.

Thanks everyone. I upgraded to some BR6700 pads and it has helped a bit. I'm due the six week service, so I'll ask the guys to check the adjustment when i take it in. Other than that, it's running well!
