Just dropping this here....I am going to update it further tomorrow, just going to gauge interest. So I've upgraded to a 520, so my 500 is surplus to requirements, it's got a small scratch on the screen top left (Will add a pic) and the plastic shell at the top is a little scuffed due to rubbing on my light when putting it on the bike. I'm not looking for an excessive amount for it, probably around £70 (ONO) - for a regular forum member if they are interested. Send me a PM and I'll add some pics tomorrow when I get home from work. Cheers.

Maybe I've priced it too rich, or everybody had a Garmin already I'll stick it on the bay later and give a link if anyone is interested.

Just a heads up on the pricing - Chain Reaction are selling a 'refurbished' one for £85, plus a further £10 off for spending over £75 on clearout items:
"A newly overhauled (NOH) device is a device that was returned to Garmin to be factory refurbished. Newly overhauled devices go through extensive testing to bring the units up to the same specifications as when they were manufactured as new, maintaining high quality standards. Newly overhauled devices will still have a one year manufacturer's warranty when purchased from a Garmin dealer"

Also, I got mine new for £80 from Aldi last summer brand new - most who need one have one, or are after the newer options. It's a good bit of kit though none-the-less. Could ask for offers via PM if not sorted via eBay.

I'm in the exact same boat, upgraded to the 520 last week so have been looking around at prices to sell mine. Plenty of 500s seem to sell for that price on eBay, even higher if you've still got the box + mounts.

I'm really surprised how they hold their value, I looked for a cheap one earlier this year and even scruffy ones were fetching good money.

Please excuse my ignorance guys, but these garmin devices/models do they provide navigational support (I.e. Load/follow a pre-planned ride?) or simply record a route and stats post-ride? I see you all talking about gpx files.
As I tend to fall behind my guys when out, and am a poor judge of direction (unless half of the local community are out cheering me toward the destination), I'm potentially interested in the former if available/cheap enough. Not that I have an approved budget from SWMBO.
Cheers, Chiban

You won't see a map though. www.youtube.com/watch?v=V9NQNcdtxZU

Thanks @germcevoy, very helpful.
Does the 500 offer much over a 200, which is shown in the video? (Apologies for the dumb asks, but may be interested in buying and i trust our forum advice over my own likely misinterpretation of specs.)

Cadence and HR (+ power if you spend a wodge), if you are going to train more seriously, work out your zones, know your threshold, tempo, FTHR etc, then that's what it's good for ... if all this is double Dutch, then no, the 200 is all you need.

You have to buy a cadence sensor and HRM in addition of course.

Main draw (apart from sensors) is the customisable home screen. The 200 is quite rigid in the data it shows whereas you can show what you want on the 500.

Thanks guys, one to mull over. I have a HRM strap/watch so that's not a biggie.

Yeah I think it's defo going on the bay, especially since people get into bidding frenzies and end up paying equal to or more than retail for things. Crossing my fingers and hoping so anyway! PS. I did say ONO in the original post, but no offers were proposed so that's why I presumed little interest

I wanted one for the ability to use speed/cadence sensor indoors (I already have a Touring+) at the velodrome and on rollers, ended up with an Edge25 from Aldi but not entirely happy with the screen limitations and unreliability of sensors.
