Hey all. Not got my B'Twin yet but it's on order and should be here next week. First dedicated road bike (I have an 'adventure' road bike already but it's quite heavy and currently fitted out with 30mm tyres for tow paths) so looking forward to see the difference an out and out roadie will make. So in a few days I should be trying to put together an Ultra 700 AF. Yay.

Cheer folks. Looking forward to it, although it has to be said my N+1 did not initially go down well here at home Have to say r0b1et that's an impressive Veloviewer sig image. Don't know where you find the time!! I was honestly surprised at how much bike you get for your money with the B'Twins. I'd never considered one before because, well name shame I guess (OK, kick me), but I decided to give them a look over and was very pleasantly impressed. Only thing missing off the Ultra 700 I think is the crankset. Might look at replacing the R500 with a 105 if it becomes an issue. Can't find too much recent info online about the R500. Hoping to get this thing built up and get some test miles on it pretty quick. I've got my first (and likely only) sportive in a couple of weeks and would prefer to use this one than my current bike.

I do about 10hrs a week, ~1 hour a day [with 1/2 rest days a week] + occasional long ride soon adds up. As for the chainsets, the R500 is basically a 5 arm version of 105 5800. That means it's a bit (~160g) heavier basically, I doubt you are weight weenie enough for it to matter though?

Hi r0b1et. Thanks for that. Honestly from stuff I'd picked up from 2-3 year old threads I got the impression the R500 was a throw away set. If it's effectively a 5 arm 105 then I'll take the weight penalty. Weight weenie? Me? LOL oh how I'm not one. Good call. Currently tipping the scales at 96.5kg so less than a quarter kilo on the crankset is hardly an issue.
Still not convinced I'll get the bike by original delivery date mind you. Still at "loading" right now and it's coming from their Europe warehouse. Here by Tuesday? Not holding my breath.
All that mileage from 10hrs a week? Not bad going at all. Impressive.

I average 18+mph that's the trick really (I probably do more than 10hrs sometimes, but not often, will be more as the weather improves and evenings after work can expand) - training for long distance and racing, so for me, go hard or go home (occasionally taking option 2 when it just isn't happening). Did you get it yet?

Sorry for taking so long to reply r0b1et. Been a bit busy, and had a few teething issues with it. Yes, it came on its scheduled day surprisingly and got my first ride out on it today (Sunday 1st May). What a great ride. Very impressed. Feels and handles like a bike 2-3 times the price. I think I'm going to like this bike. IF the weather ever improves to a point I want to go out. Bucketing down again here right now. Luckily it was fine for my ride. Average 18mph.....sheesh, I have some way to go. Averaged 14.6 today over 29mi, which admittedly for me is a big milestone. Good luck with the long distance. Don't know where people find the time to spend hours and hours at it. I barely have time to fit in sleep
