Thanks guys, yes Paulinblack I am tall, 6'4" so it might come in handy for a bargain. Whilst my wife is out with her mum for Mothers Day I'm looking after the twins. Not ideal bike shopping conditions but I do need a few bits from Decathlon. I'll try and have a little look at the Mach which won't be easy with two five year olds in tow but I'll give it a go . I'll probably end up looking more at the kids bikes n' scooters instead. My 6 and 4 yo's love a trip to decathlon etc. They just love looking at at trying the kids bikes. And ringing every single bell/horn in the store. Well that was pretty much what happened on my trip to Decathlon too. I knew it wasn't a good idea to take them. I wanted a few bits for myself but actually didn't spend a penny on me, however, the boys came out with two brand new scooters each. How the hell did that happen?

Sightly better wheels and nicer cranks on the 2016 model. 105 callipers too. Certainly not £500 worth of upgrades though and I'm 99% sure the Synapse frame wasn't updated for 2016. Paint job... I know which I'd be buying.

I had a visit to Ormskirk (10 miles from home) and the Dolan showroom/factory today. I loved it! It was like a museum, I don't know if anyone here has been or not but the memorabilia they've got there makes it worth a visit alone. So many shirts from Wiggins/Hoy & Thomas. I felt bad taking photos, I snook this one whilst nobody was looking. Coincidently this was the bike I'm most interested in :-

Someone has thrown a spanner in the works. I was pretty much ready to get the Dolan but a friend in my MTB club said I should consider this bike from Giant www.giant-bicycles.com/en-gb/bikes/model/defy.advanced.1/24965/90512/#specificationsA Defy Advanced 1. A touch more more expensive than the Dolan £1600 instead of £1500. Both are full Ultegra, I think the Dolan has better wheels, Ksyrium Elite over Giants own. The Giant however has disc brakes and that my biggest question mark. I still don't know what I think of disc brakes on a road bike. My initial thoughts, having so never really considered disc brakes are :- - Do I actually need them? - Are they going to need more bike shop work than traditional brakes that I could replace myself? - I am quite old fashioned and I still think it doesn't look right? - Do I have to get over this and realise that nearly all road bikes are going to have disc brakes in the coming years? The Giant does seem really popular resulting in a quite a long delivery wait time, possibly 6 weeks but I do like that I can get it from my local bike shop who I would like to support.

No right answer I'm afraid, personal choice. I'd say flatter rides in better weather favour simpler caliper brakes, hillier rides in worse weather favour rim saving discs with better braking.

A very odd feeling yesterday. I collected my new Focus Cayo from the LBS and as delighted as I am with it, I have the overwhelming feeling of not wanting to ride it and wreck it. For the time being I feel like I just want to sit and admire it looking all new, clean and sparkly. I loved the bike fit experience in the shop too. It felt very thorough. Not that I've ever had one before to judge this on mind you. Height, weight, shoulder width, pelvis bone height, arm length, something to do with fists and fingers pressured into the pelvic area . I think that was part of the bike fit anyway . There was very minor adjustments to saddle height, then the shop owner swapped out the stem for a slightly shorter one. I think it was a 120mm and dropped it too either 100mm or 110, I can't quite remember but it instantly made the pressure points in my hands feel better. Overall the saddle height feels really high but whilst I was on the turbo it felt great, no knee pains like I have with my self set up 500se. I'll bow to his much better knowledge. They also had a nice pair of Giro Trans E70 shoes on offer at £80 and he kindly set those up for me too. Apologies for photos, very rushed with my old phone. I love the white bar tape but it's going to be a struggle to keep it clean, any tips from experienced white bar tape owners? I'm thinking abit of carefully sprayed Mr Muscle?

Baby wipes are your best friend stegg, great for bar tape and seat, as well as frame tbh
Great looking bike

Very nice looking bike Steg, welcome to the Cayo family Get it out on the roads, any muck pick up will soon come off. I took my Cayo for a sunny 60 miler this morning with a few friends and it is now covered in crap. Weather for tomorrow is rubbish so it will get a good clean.

Very nice!
Re white bar tape, baby wipes do a good job of keeping it clean, i sometimes use a bit of de-greaser on there too when it gets really dirty. Keep you're gloves clean, i found the tape use to get very dirty from my gloves, don't tend to wear gloves so much in the summer so not really an issue.
